1.1 Introduction
Introduction
The ICP DP2K and DP4K Update Recovery Tool allows you to perform a clean software installation of the ICP firmware.
By formatting and repartitioning the flash disk of the ICP board before installing the ICP firmware the ICP board is made free from
corrupt files which potentially could cause the update process or the normal operation of the ICP to failure.
The root cause of the corrupt filesystem is some critical timing in the ICP firmware that drives the flash disk on the ICP board. This
issue is resolved since ICP firmware v3.0. However when having an ICP board with a lower version than v3.0 it is possible the
filesystem is already corrupt and can lead to a non operational ICP board or errors when trying to update the ICP board.
ICP boards which can’t boot up in normal operation mode anymore are also likely to recover with the ICP DP2K and DP4K Update
Recovery Tool. As long as the ICP can still be booted into boot mode and ethernet communication to the ICP is still possible.
Prior to using the ICP DP2K and DP4K Update Recovery Tool, read and follow the explained procedures below.
v1.0.4
Updates/recovers the ICP board to ICP firmware v4.2.1.
v1.0.3
Updates/recovers the ICP board to ICP firmware v4.0.420.
v1.0.2
Fixes a bug in v1.0.1 of the ICP DP2K and DP4K Update Recovery Tool that sometimes won’t let the update to finish completely.
v1.0.1
Updates/recovers the ICP board to ICP firmware v3.2.340.
v1.0.0
Updates/recovers the ICP board to ICP firmware v3.1.324.
CAUTION: The update and recovery process must be performed strictly according to this Release Note.
Perform the steps in exactly the same order as described.
Failure to do so can cause irreversible damage to the ICP board.

2.1 Downloading the ICP DP2K and DP4K Update Recovery Tool (v1.0.5)
How to download the ICP DP2K and DP4K Update Recovery Tool (v1.0.5)?
1. Open the url: https://www.barco.com in a web browser.
2. Login into the secured Barco website.
Image 2-2
CAUTION: Before updating make sure you have cloned your ICP configuration files as all configuration files
located on the ICP will be removed.
The default Cinema Controller board and ICP configuration files are included in the BaseClone packages which
are available on the Barco website (browse to your DP2K or DP4K projector - Technical downloads - Config-
uration files).
Two methods can be used to check the ICP board mode: a remote check and a physical check.
Remote check
1. Startup the ICP and Enigma Control Program.
Tip: The ICP and Enigma Control Program is part of the package. Unzip ICP and Enigma Control Program Setup
1.02.(119).zip and execute Install.msi to install the software.
2. Start with tab page Connection (1).
In the Ethernet configuration pane, click on the IP Addr input field (2a) and fill out the IP address of the projector, or
Click on Select (2b) and select the correct IP address out of the list.
3. In Connection to ICP pane, check the check box in front of External Ethernet Port (3)
Note: No other fields checked in that pane or in the Connection to Enigma pane.
4. If a connection is established and Main App is currently running (4) is listed in the Version Info pane, the ICP board is in
operational mode.
5. Uncheck the checkbox in front of External Ethernet Port (3). (Otherwise, the communication to the ICP remains locked which
prevent the provided program to update the ICP firmware.)

Physical check
The ICP board is in operational mode if the following 3 LEDs light green:
• SW STAT (4)
4 3 2 1
Image 2-4
CAUTION: You only need to perform this procedure if the ICP board is not in normal operation mode.
WARNING: The projector must be cooled down before removing any of the projector covers: wait for the cool
down cycle to finish after switching the projector to standby (the sound of the fans comes to a very low level)
and wait for 15 more minutes before starting any of the procedures below.
WARNING: Disconnect the mains power supply to the projector terminals and unplug the power cord at the
UPS INLET socket in order to completely cut off the power supply to the projector. Failure to do so can cause
serious injury or death.
CAUTION: Always wear a wrist band which is connected to the ground while handling the electrostatic dis-
charge (ESD) sensitive parts.

ICP board, front panel removal
The ICP board restarts. When fully restarted, the most right LED (1) (image 2-4) lights up as orange and remains orange. The
ICP board is in boot mode when the color of the LEDs is as follows:
- LED 1: orange
- LED 2 and 3: green
- LED 4: flashing green
When it is not possible anymore to start the ICP board in boot mode, replace the ICP board. Return the failed
ICP board to Barco, together with the update log file (if you have one).
2.5 Updating or recovering the ICP firmware to v4.3.448 by using the recover
command
CAUTION: Before updating make sure you have cloned your ICP configuration files as all configuration files
located on the ICP will be removed.
The default Cinema Controller board and ICP configuration files are included in the BaseClone packages which
are available on the Barco website (browse to your DP2K or DP4K projector - Technical downloads - Config-
uration files).
The update process will take approximately 18 minutes in case of a DP2K projector and 23 minutes in case of
a DP4K projector.
A log file of the update can be found in the log_update folder. The filename of the log file contains the serial
number of the projector that was updated.

3. Go to the directory where the package ICP DP2K and DP4K Recovery Tool (v1.0.5) was extracted: C:\IcpUpdateRecover-v1.0.5
a) Browse to your C:\ directory by typing cd C:\ and pressing Enter.
b) Access the package directory by typing cd IcpUpdateRecover-v1.0.5
4. Type recover xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the projector to be updated) and press
Enter.
Example: the IP addres of the projector to be updated is 10.192.32.11. The command prompt window looks as follows:
Image 2-9
5. After the update is done, the DP2K and DP4K ICP Update Recovery Tool will notify whether the update was successful or not.
a) Successful: Update successfully done.
b) Unsuccessful: Update failed!!! (failure on step..., action:..., file:...)
Image 2-10
6. If the update is successful, the firmware of the ICP should now be version 4.3.448 (see "Verifying the ICP firmware version", page
12). Finally perform the procedure "Restoring the TI Board files", page 13.
If the update is unsuccessful, powercycle the projector or do a software reboot of the projector (see "Software reboot of the pro-
jector", page 12) and repeat the procedure "Updating or recovering the ICP firmware to v4.3.448 by using the recover command",
page 10.

CAUTION: First install the standard BaseClone package and after that install your own clone package which
you created at the start of the update process.
Performing these steps in reverse order will cause loss of your personal configuration files stored on the ICP.
The BaseClone packages are available on the Barco website (browse to your DP2K or DP4K projector - Technical downloads -
Configuration files).
