Metal Detector
A metal detector is an equipment used in finding any kind of metal and its sensors are
made of large coils of wire. Through the coils, an electromagnetic force is induced when the
pulsing current is applied. And whenever it detects any kind of metal, the electromagnetic field
of the coil will move across the metal which results the inducing of its electric current (eddy
current). The eddy currents then induce their own magnetic field, which generates an opposite
current in the coil, which induces a signal indicating the presence of metal.
For instance, in Faraday’s law of induction, the change of the magnetic environment of
the coil in the metal detector will affect its voltage or electromotive force. Therefore, if a coil is
near towards the magnetic field of the metal the emf will increase causing the metal detector
detects it.
