Argumentative Essay

Poverty is a persistent issue for the majority of Filipinos. According to a quote by

an unidentified author, "Poverty is a decision, not fate." No one ever intended to be poor;
therefore, there must be explanations for how they ended up in that position. Some people
think that the government is to blame for the rising tide of the poor, but is that truly the
case? They probably receive the blame since they control all of our nation's resources.

Government may have a major impact. The economic framework comes from the
government. The policies are given by government. Government provides the structure
for institutions. So, the government contributes significantly to poverty. Some people
think the government should be taking on more responsibility; some think it should be
taking on less; and still others think its existing role is about right.

Almost 80% of the country's poor people reside in these places, where poverty is
both the worst and most pervasive. Agriculture and fishing are the main sources of
income for the rural poor. In general, indigenous peoples and people who live in highland
areas have greater rates of illiteracy, unemployment, and poverty. In the Philippines,
more than one-third of the population is estimated to be poor.
