Culture Quest
Overview
In this activity, students explore the factors that determine people’s Language Religion
cultural identities. Students compare and contrast languages and
religions, then create and perform monologues of characters from

Monologue Research
Directions: A monologue is a form of theatrical story telling. Your monologue
will be a speech given in the first person (“I”), telling the story of the cultural
character you create. You may use simple props, such as clothing, to create
a more realistic experience for you and your audience. In order to write your
monologue, you must first complete research to answer the following questions.
Write your answers on other sheets paper.
1. What country will you research?
7. How does your character’s religion determine his or her perception of the
world?
10. What foods might your character eat regularly? Are there any particular
rules about eating that your character would follow?
11. What art forms might your character create? Describe them or create a
sample to display during your monologue.
12. Are there any articles of clothing that your character would or would not
wear? What are they?
13. Describe your character’s home. Are there any special rooms or special
furnishings? What are their purposes?
Now you are ready to write your monologue. Remember to use the first person
(“I”) and to make your character appealing to your audience. Your character
should be about the same age as you.
