Chapter 4.

Circular measure
1.Introduction to circular measure
History of degree and radian:

Degree Measure:

The more familiar unit of measurement is degree. A circle is divided into 360 equal degrees.Degrees may be further
divided into minutes and seconds, but that division is not as universal as it used to be. Each degree is divided into 60
equal parts called minutes. Each minute is further divided into 60 equal parts called seconds.

Radian Measure:

The other common measurement for angles is radians.

Why not define an angle with the ratio of arc length to radius?

Definition of radian:

One radian is defined as the angle subtended from the center of a circle which intercepts an arc equal in length to
the radius of the circle.

Advantages of radian measure:

1. Simplification of mathematical formula——Taylor expansion of sin(x).

2. Daily life use —— Use angular velocity to determine speed of a car.
2.Conversion between degree and radian
