The Promise and Conditions of God to the Nation

Scripture: John 3: 16-21

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in
him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because
they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict:
Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their
deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the
light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into
the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the
sight of God.

1. Believing
• That Jesus is our Savior
• 18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One
who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.
(1 John 5:18)

• That Jesus is the Light and Salt

- 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it
be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown
out and trampled underfoot. (Matthew 5:13)
- 36 Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will
be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.” (Luke 11:26)

2. Condemnation
• The fear in the light
- 11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and
Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him,
they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and
sympathize with him and comfort him. (Job 2:11)

• The evil deeds

- Repay them for their deeds
and for their evil work;
repay them for what their hands have done
and bring back on them what they deserve. (Psalms 28:4)
• The unbelievers
- 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually
immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they
will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second
death.” (Revelation 21:8)

3. Reward of Believing

• Eternal Life in Heaven

- 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven
and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. ( 2 Peter 3:13)
• Unconditional Love
- 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
