INT.

CHURCH - DAY

BEE is alone sitting in the pews at the church. She is

wearing all black. Footsteps can be heard walking down the
aisle behind her.

BEE turns around in the chair to see RIVER walking down the
aisle towards her. RIVER sits in the pew in front of BEE and
turns around to face her.

RIVER
How are you?

BEE
(Still looking forward)
You know, funnily enough everyones asked me that today.

RIVER
(Looks down)
Right…sorry.

RIVER turns back around to look at the front of the church in

the direction that BEE is looking.

RIVER
You know she wouldn’t have wanted you to stay here.

BEE looks down at her hands. River turns back around to look
at her.

RIVER
Do you want me to drive you home? Or you can stay at mine if
you need to.

BEE looks up at RIVER.

BEE
Could you take me back to mums?

RIVER
(Startled)
I don’t know Bee. Are you sure you want to go there right
now?

BEE
(Quietly)
Please.
INT. MUM’S HOUSE - DAY

BEE walks into the house closing the door behind her. She
hangs her coat up and brushes her hand over her mum’s old
coat which is hung next to it.

She walks into her mum’s bedroom and sits down on the bed.
She looks up at the photo attached to the mirror. She picks
it up, turning it around. On the back it reads ‘Devon ‘93’
she turns it around and looks at the photo. She looks sad
whilst looking over the photo.

She stands up still holding the photo and walks into the
barn. She climbs the ladder into the loft and crouches down
to look at the bookshelf. She drags her fingers along the
books until she finds her mum’s old photo album and slides it
out holding it up.

She dusts off the top of the book blowing across the cover
and opens it to reveal a collection of photos. She flicks
towards the back of the book to place the photo in when a
piece of paper slides out of the bottom and into her lap.

BEE places the book down whilst it is still open and picks up
the piece of paper on her lap. She opens it and reads across
the certificate of adoption with her name on.

She drops the paper, shocked, and takes her phone out from
her pocket and calls RIVER.

RIVER (V.O)
(Other end of the phone)
Hey, you alright?

BEE
(Frantic)
Yeah um… no actually no could you come back here?

River (V.O)
Sure, why what's happening?

BEE
I’ll explain when you get here, I just need to show you
something..

RIVER (V.O)
Okay I’ll be there in five.
BEE hangs up the phone and places it down on the floor. She
picks up the photo book again and flicks through to the page
that the adoption certificate fell out. On the other side of
the book is a photo of BEE as a baby with her adoptive mum.
She pulls the photo out of the book and turns it around to
reveal ‘Bee comes home ‘01’ she turns the photo back around
and places it and the certificate back in the book slamming
the book shut.

INT. KITCHEN MUM’S HOUSE - DAY

BEE and RIVER are sitting across from each other at the
kitchen table they both have cups of tea. The clock is loudly
ticking as RIVER reads the adoption certificate. BEE is
looking at him trying to gauge his reaction.

RIVER places the certificate down and looks up at BEE.

RIVER
I don’t know what to say…how did you never know about this?

BEE
(Sarcastic)
I don’t know River, maybe it's the fact that she never told
me.

RIVER
But it doesn’t make any sense why wouldn’t she tell you?

BEE
If I knew I wouldn’t be sitting with you trying to figure it
out.

RIVER looks back down at the paper.

RIVER
So what are you going to do about it?

BEE
I guess try and figure some things out…(quietly) I just can't
believe she wouldn’t tell me. What was she hiding?
RIVER looks focused on the paper.
RIVER
(Still reading the paper)
Wait a second…grab me my laptop, it's in my bag on the chair.

BEE stands up and rummages through RIVERS bag until she finds
the laptop. She walks back over and hands it to him. She sits
back down and takes a sip of tea.

BEE
What are you looking for?

RIVER opens his laptop and starts to type. He turns around

the laptop showing it to her.

RIVER
Look…there’s a watermark at the bottom of the certificate
with the name of the orphanage on.

BEE pulls the laptop closer to her and zooms in on the

location on the map.

BEE
It says it’s roughly an hour drive from here. You up for a
drive?

BEE still looks at the laptop whilst RIVER speaks

RIVER
Are you sure that's a good idea? Maybe your mum didn’t tell
you for a reason.

BEE
(snaps)
Well she’s not here so it doesn’t matter what she wanted.

BEE stands up and walks towards the door. River watches her,
eventually he sighs standing up and walking out as well.

EXT. ABANDONED BUILDING - DAY

BEE and RIVER stand in front of an abandoned building that

used to be the orphanage.

RIVER
So what’s the plan now?

BEE
Um…Maybe there’s something inside that could help us.

RIVER turns to face BEE.

RIVER
(Sighing)
What are we even looking for Bee?

BEE turns to face RIVER.

BEE
(shrugging)
I don’t know, closure I guess, I need to find out who I am.

BEE looks back at the building

RIVER
Okay well…lead the way I guess.

BEE looks back at RIVER, takes a deep breath and turns to

walk inside the building. RIVER follows shortly after her.

INT. ABANDON BUILDING - DAY

RIVER walks through the building with a flashlight. He shines

it on a pile of paperwork and crouches down to take a proper
look at it.

BEE walks through a different part of the building and comes

across an old dirty teddy bear. She crouches down and picks
it up dusting it off. She looks sadly at it as if she is
reminiscing over something.

RIVER
(shouting From across the otherside of the building)
Hey Bee come look at this!

BEE takes one last look at the teddy bear before placing it
propped up against the wall and walking over towards
RIVER.(Lingering shot of teddy bear)

RIVER is reading one page of the paperwork as BEE approaches

him.
BEE
(Still walking)
What is it?

RIVER continues to look down at the paper

RIVER
Come look at this.

BEE stops beside RIVER looking over his shoulder at the

paperwork.

BEE
It’s adoption papers. Is mine in there?

RIVER flicks through the pages quicker.

RIVER
I don’t think so but there is a contact on here for the head
nurse.

BEE
(Looking at RIVER)
Do you think she’d be able to help me?

RIVER
I don’t know…this is only an old phone number.

BEE takes the papers from RIVER and takes out her phone to
type the numbers in.

BEE
It’s worth a try at least.

Dial tone can be heard as BEE rings. RIVER looks at her,

seeming to be doubting her decision.

The phone connects.

NURSE (V.O)
(In phone)
Hello?

BEE
(Reading the paper)
Hi, is this Lisa?
NURSE (V.O)
It is…who is this?

BEE
(Gripping the phone tighter)
Hi, Hi um I’m Bee I was a baby at the home you used to work
at.

NURSE (V.O)
Oh hello dear, what can I do for you?

BEE
I was just wondering if you would be willing to meet with me,
I have a couple questions I need to ask.

INT. NURSE’S HOUSE - DAY

BEE sits in the living room of the NURSE’S house. The NURSE
walks in with tea and a plate of biscuits. She passes the tea
to BEE and holds the biscuits out in front of BEE.

NURSE
Biscuit?

BEE
(Smiles politely)
I’m alright thank you.

NURSE
Suit yourself

The NURSE places the biscuits down and sits in the chair
across from BEE.

NURSE
What can I do for you dear?

BEE places the tea down on the coffee table.

BEE
I came to ask if you know anything about my mother…my real
mother.

The NURSE sets her own tea down and looks at BEE solemnly.
NURSE
I wish I could, but I don’t have any of the files anymore.

BEE sits up straighter.

BEE
But surely you must have something, anything.

NURSE
Let me ask you something dear. Even if I did have the
information, what would you do with it? Your birth mother
gave you away for a reason. All that should matter to you is
that your adoptive mother was there for you when she couldn’t
be. You don’t need her, the only mother you ever needed was
there for you your whole life anyway.

BEE looks at the NURSE upset.

NURSE
Please excuse me if I have spoken out of turn.

BEE
Don’t worry you haven’t. Would you excuse me there's
something I would like to do.

The NURSE looks at BEE and nods.

INT. MUM’S HOUSE - DAY

BEE walks into her mum’s living room and takes out a dvd tape
from underneath the TV. She switches on the TV and starts to
play the DVD. The DVD holds a compilation of memories from
when BEE was younger with her mum. Cut back and forth between
BEE crying and the DVD.
