Ex.#1  A medium coffee at Tim Horton's contains about 140mg of 
           caffeine.  The half­life of caffeine in the bloodstream is about
           5.5 hours.  Gary orders a medium coffee forgetting that if he
           has more than 50mg of caffeine in his system, he will have
           difficulty going to sleep.  If he finished the coffee at 6:00pm,
           when should he be able to fall asleep?

Ex.#2  A plastic sun visor allows light to pass through but
            reduces the light's intensity by 5% for every mm of
            thickness.  How thick must the plastic be in order to 
            block 60% of the light?
