AP Stats – Ch 13 Guided Notes (approach) (Starts on page 342) Date ____________________

You WILL know most of the material presented in this chapter (since we covered some together already and a lot you
learned in previous classes; the question is, will you remember). My recommendation is to review the key ideas/terms (if
you need to write anything down, then do so). THEN, work through some questions (two options are noted at the end of
this doc). The problems should give you an idea if you are ready to move on to the next chapter (You may choose to read
everything and write your own notes too….that’s okay).

Terminology (pg 342 or pg 356 end of the chapter):

Event -

Sample Space (what is it and how denoted) –

The Law of Large Numbers (LLN) – Definition & how connected to PROBABILITY (purple box)

The Law of Averages - Understand what this ‘law’ is saying and if there is such a ‘law’

Theoretical Probability -

Notation for Probability (box, lower left) -

Subjective Probability

FORMAL PROBABILITY (pg 348) - There are 5 Rules (Again, maybe read through them & only write down what you did not
remember). Pay attention to ‘notation’ (some of the notation summarized pg 350 left margin box)

Checking for Independence (pg 351) - Feel free to read through this material, but we will learn how to actually check for
independence next chapter.

Page 353-Purple Box AT LEAST - Read this and the ‘some….’ info in the box below

YOUR BEST BET IS TO PULL MY KEY UP AND AT LEAST READ (OR COPY) THE INFO I PULLED FROM THIS SECTION (maybe
write the ideas on the back of this paper)

Ready to test your understanding of the concept, try some questions. ALL QUESTIONS ARE REQUIRED
