This thesis is the final product in the course “TPG 4910 Petroleum Engineering, Drilling
Engineering, Master Thesis” at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied
Geophysics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway.

First of all I would like to thank my co-supervisor, Bjørn Astor Brechan Statoil ASA, for
tremendous help and guidance during this thesis work. Working with you has been a great
learning experience and also given me valuable insight into well planning and drilling
operations.

I would also like to thank my supervisor, Sigbjørn Sangesland, for guidance during this thesis
work, and for giving me the opportunity to write my master thesis under his supervision.
