TIME RESPONSE OF CONTROL SYSTEMS

OBJECTIVES
 To explore the Time Response of a control system.
 To explore the effect of gain on Time response of a control system.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

5
Consider the open-loop transfer function G(s) = 2
𝑆 + 2𝑆 + 25
When the input is unit step, the desired steady-state value of the output is ‘1’. Using the MATLAB
step function, show that the steady state error to a unit step step input is 0.8.

Consider the unity feedback system with G(s) = 𝑆(𝑆+15)
Obtain the step response of this closed loop unity feedback system and determine the percent
overshoot and steady state error.

Consider two types of controllers Gc
1) Gc = K (Proportional Controller)
2) Gc =Ko + (K1 /s ) (Proportional, Integral Controller)
Where K=2, Ko =2 and K1 = 20.
Plot the Step Responses of unity feedback system first with Proportional Controller and then
with Proportional, Integral Controller. Mark the steady state values in both plots.
