Executive summary:-

Rigid pavements are constructed of portland


cement concrete slabs resting on a prepared
subbase of granular material or directly on a
granular subgrade. Load is transmitted through
the slabs to the underlying subgrade by flexure of
the slabs.

Definition

Rigid pavements are those, which contain Sufficient beam


strength to be able to bridge over the localized sub-grade
failures and areas of in adequate support.
Advantages and Disadvantages
of Rigid PAVEMENT Pavement

 Longer lifespan.
 Maintenance costs are low.
 Allows for future asphalt resurfacing.
 Allows for wider load distribution with fewer base and sub base
requirements.
 Can be installed on low and high quality soils.
 Strong edges that don’t require additional edging work or curbs.

Construction Of CC pavements

The type of cement that may be used for the preparation of


PQC and construction of cement concrete road construction
pavements are:
(i) Ordinary Portland Cement of 43 grade.
(ii) Ordinary Portland of 53 grade.
(iii) Portland pozzolana cement with fly ash content up to
20% by weight.
Conclusion

It was concluded that the rigid pavements should be


constructed by using higher grades like M45 and M50 as the
fatigue stresses and cumulative fatigue damage values due to
variable single, tandem and tridem axle load repetitions
obtained are less as compared to M40 grade.
