EXP II- Equipotential Surface Lines & Electric Field Lines

1. (10 points) Define, compare and contrast electric field and electric potential.
Electric field is a field that exerts force on charged particles by pulling or pushing.
Electric potential is amount of work needed to move a charged particle.
2. (10 points) Define equipotential line. How are electric field lines and equipotential lines
drawn relative to each other?
Equipotential line is where the potential is equal and creates a linear visual.
3. (10 points) Describe the amount of work you would have to do to move a positive charge
along:
a. An electric field lines = E.q
b. An equipotential line = 0

4. (10 points) What is gradient and how is it related to the electric field vector.
It means slope. It might be related to rate of change of potential .
5. (10 points) Can different equipotential lines cross? Explain.
No because that means there must be more than one different voltage value.
6. (60 points) Map equipotential surfaces and electric field lines for the followings:

a. Negatively charged point particle:

b. Two charged points, left: negatively charged, right: positively charged.

c. Negatively charged planar and positively charged circular conductors:

d. Two negatively charged points:
