Two point charges of magnitudes +4Q and -Q are placed as shown below. Calculate the electric field at point
P.
A metallic sphere of radius R is charged with a charge Q. A hollow metallic sphere of radius 2R is brought in
contact with the charged sphere and then removed. Calculate the final charge on the metallic sphere.
1.A point charge of 4 μC is placed at a distance of 10 cm from another point charge of -2 μC. Calculate the
electric force between them.
2.A capacitor of capacitance 2 μF is charged to a potential difference of 100 V. What is the energy stored in
the capacitor?
3.Derive an expression for the electric field due to an electric dipole at a point on its axial line.
4.Define equipotential surfaces and explain why the electric field is always perpendicular to them.
5.A charge of +3 μC is placed at the center of a cube of side 10 cm. What is the net electric flux through one
face of the cube?

Section D: Short Answer Questions
1.A uniform electric field of magnitude 10 N/C is directed along the positive x-axis. A point charge of -2 μC
is placed at the origin. Calculate the work done in moving the charge to a point P(2, 3, 4) in the electric field.
2.A parallel plate capacitor is charged to a potential difference of 200 V. If the separation between the plates
is 5 mm, calculate the energy density of the electric field between the plates.
3.A point charge of +2 μC is placed at the origin. Find the electric field at a point P(3, 4, 5) due to the point
charge.
4.Two point charges of magnitudes +5 μC and -10 μC are placed at a distance of 20 cm apart. Find the point
on the line joining the charges where the electric field is zero.
5.A point charge of +4 μC is placed at a distance of 5 cm from an uncharged conducting sphere of radius 10
cm. Calculate the electric field at a point on the surface of the sphere closest to the point charge.
Section
1.Derive an expression for the electric field due to a uniformly charged spherical shell at a point inside and
outside the shell.
2.A parallel plate capacitor has a capacitance of 10 μF and is charged to a potential difference of 100 V. The
plates are then disconnected and a dielectric slab of dielectric constant 5 is inserted between the plates.
3.Calculate the new capacitance of the capacitor.
4.Derive an expression for the electric potential due to an electric dipole at a point on its equatorial line. Use
this expression to calculate the electric potential at a point on the equatorial line of a dipole of dipole moment
2 × 10^-29 Cm, placed in an electric field of magnitude 10^4 N/C.
