Sushanta Kumar Behera was born in Berhampur and brought up and educated in
Chhatrapur, both in the state of Odisha in eastern India. His father was a Revenue
inspector and her mother was a house wife, and both of them inspired Sushanta to
pursue a career in teaching. He received several scholarships and awards for his
performance at school and decided to focus his studies on science and engineering.
He has two brothers, younger one is servicing in DRDO, Govt. of India, and elder has
working as a primary school teacher. He is married to Barsa Rani Behera and have
a baby named Rishi.
 
Sushanta graduated B.E in Chemical Engineering at Sant Lomgowal Institute of
Engineering & Technology, Sangrur, Punjab, in 2010. He then studied an M.Tech in
Petroleum Engineering at the Indian School of Mines (ISM/IIT) Dhanbad, which he
completed in 2013. After he has done research at IIT, Kharagpur, where in 2018 he
gained a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
