The villagers of Sorume land were terrorized by a giant eagle named Kongga that preyed on their livestock and kidnapped people. They sought help from the strong man Larumbalangi, who advised them to use poisoned bamboo spikes to trap the bird. A brave villager named Tasahea lured Kongga into the trap and killed it with a poisoned bamboo spear. However, the bird's corpse caused a plague, so Larumbalangi prayed for rain to wash it away. The floods ended the plague, and Tasahea and Larumbalangi were honored by Sorume for saving the village. The mountain where Kongga's body fell was named Mekongga Mountain.

Once upon a time, in Sorume land or now is called as
Kolaka lived a giant eagle called Kongga. The bird always created chaos in the village. (Paragraph 1)
Every time it flew, it always preyed on the villagers'
livestock. Even if it didn't find any animals, it would kidnap a human and devour him. The villagers felt restless and frightened. Day by day, the people's livestock are slowly being eaten up.That's why the people of Sorume were looking for ways to deal with the Kongga bird. (Paragraph 2)
One day, the villagers heard a news about a strong
and great man who lived in a neighboring country called the land of Solumba (now Balandete) named Larumbalangi. As a result, the residents of Sorume then sent a delegation to Solumba Country to meet Larumbalangi. As well as intending to ask Larumbalangi's willingness to help expel the giant eagle. After they told Larumbalangi about the events that had befallen their country, he then advised the people of Sorume to use sharpened bamboo to fight the giant Kongga bird."To deal with the giant garuda, you must use the right strategy. Gather old bamboo and then make the ends sharp. Also smear the ends with poison. Look for a brave man in your country to fight the giant garuda. Fence him with sharp bamboo. So if the Kongga bird attacks, it will be stabbed by the poisoned bamboo," said Larumbalangi. The envoys were grateful for the suggestion and they rushed back to Sorume Country to carry out the will of the sharpened bamboo. (Paragraph 3)
Arriving at Sorume, the envoys told Larumbalangi's
suggestion to the elders. Furthermore, the elders immediately held a competition to find brave men to fight the giant bird. The contest promises that anyone who can fight the Giant Kongga Bird, if he is a commoner, will be appointed a noble. And if he is from among the nobility, he will be appointed as the leader of the country. Finally, after going through intense competition and selection, a winner named Tasahea was chosen. He is an ordinary but brave citizen from the land of Loeya. After that, the elders asked the residents to make sharp bamboo which was smeared with poison. Then the sharp bamboo sticks were stuck in Padang Bende. Then, Tasahea walked into a circle surrounded by poison bamboo. He was then left alone to fish for the giant Garuda bird Kongga. For hours Tasahea stood inside the spiky bamboo, but the giant bird had not been seen. Until during the day, suddenly the weather that had been sunny turned cloudy and it was getting dark. (Paragraph 4) That's when Tasahea saw a giant eagle flying towards him. With a thunderous voice, the giant bird was ready to attack and eat Tasahea. (Paragraph 5)
However, before he could touch it, the wings of the
eagle were pierced by poisoned sharp bamboo. The giant bird groaned in pain. Not wanting to waste the opportunity, Tasahea immediately grabbed a poisoned bamboo stick that was beside him. And then threw it and hit the giant bird's chest. The bird was thrashing in pain and decided to fly away from that place. It flapped its wings again to escape from the poison spiky bamboo. He immediately flew high but not long after, his body fell right on top of a mountain. Not long ago, the bird finally died from the toxic effects of sharp bamboo. Since then, the villagers of Sorume called Tasahea as a hero. (Paragraph 6)
Unfortunately, their joy didn't last for a long time.
The carcass of a giant bird turns out to spread a disease outbreak. Many villagers died after vomiting due to disease outbreaks. In addition, many plants are eaten by caterpillars. Knowing this, the traditional elders again sent envoys to meet Larumbalangi. Arriving in the country of Solumba, the envoys conveyed the problem of the plague originating from the carcass of the Kongga eagle to Larumbalangi. Hearing this, Larumbalangi immediately prayed to God Almighty to send down heavy rain so that the carcass of the giant eagle and its caterpillars would be carried away by the floods. God granted Larumbalangi pray. The country of Sorume was hit by very heavy rain for seven days and seven nights. As a result Sorume Country experienced a severe flood. The great flood carried away the carcass of a giant eagle and its caterpillars which were carried away by the water. (Paragraph 7)
After the rains subsided and the floods receded, the
plague and caterpillars that plagued the country of Sorume finally disappeared. The people of Sorume country are happy, finally peace can be present in their country. To appreciate the services of Tasahea & Larumbalangi, the elders agreed to raise Tasahea to become royalty. While Larumbalangi was appointed as the leader of the country of Sorume. The mountain where the giant bird fell was also named Mekongga Mountain. (Paragraph 8)
