Margret thatcher's eulogy

Margret Thatcher, a British politician and stateswoman who served as Prime Minister of

the United Kingdom, argues that the former president Ronald Regan was a great president and

friend by using contrast, tone and pathos . Margret Thatcher, a personal friend of the former

president, delivers this eulogy to leave the public with a joyful memory of him.Margret

Thatcher's intended audience is for the American people to see what kind of person and president

he was since she was a eyewitness to how he was as a person.

Thatcher's speech begins with contrast because of the phrase she keeps repeating to

commemorate her friend. In the speech she says “lightness of spirit” talking about Reagan's

presence and how he perceived himself, but then in the same paragraph she states “from the very

heart of the empire”. Making her contrast her own statement, my interpretation of her statement

was that, even though he was a bright spirit he had to work against the soviets. She brings up the

phrase “lightness of spirit” again talking about how his humor and his great heart helped him

become the great president of his time. Even in a dark time when there was an attempt on his life

he was able to reassure the world of their anxiety.

The announcer then shifts her emphasis from how he was a fantastic man with a light

spirit to how he was a great president, using the method she employed to introduce her speech.

She expresses in the speech that “he inspired American and its allies with renewed faith in their

missions of freedom” implying how influential he was he had a great power towards the people

on how to give them opportunity. This helps you understand how great a president he was to the

people. He expressed his thoughts clearly but never simply seeing many truths to people since he

cooperated with people of goodwill. The way she formats her wording when talking about her

friend she makes it sound serious yet light in order for her point to come across.
To close the speech Margrett Thatcher connects the idea of he was a great president to

how he was a great person. In the speech Margret says “ a loving and grateful husband ‘Nancy

came along and saved my soul’” this part of the speech is important because it gives personal

insight on how President Regan thought of his wife. She also says the phrase “big fella upstairs”

implying that Regan was a firm believer of god.Talking about how he was as a friend and person

makes people realize he wasn't just their president he was a family man with other priorities.

Closing out her main strategies to convey this speech she really emphasizes how he was her

friend by her saying “ Ronnie” saying this nickname is a way of showing that they really were

close friends even outside of work.

Margret Thatcher uses key strategies like contrast, tone and pathos to signify what kind of

man Ronald Regan was. She used contrast when talking about Ronnies lightness of spirit and

soviets evil empire, tone was shown with how serious she made the speech, and pathos by giving

him a personal connection to his Americans. These strategies were very effective for her speech

because they give the American people a different way of seeing the former president.Do you

agree with the strategies she used?
