Proposal for Mental Health Awareness Day at British School of Kampala on 17th March

Introduction: Mental health is an important aspect of overall health and wellbeing, yet it is often
overlooked or stigmatized. With the ongoing pandemic and the resultant challenges, it is more
important than ever to prioritize mental health. The British School of Kampala recognizes this and
proposes to organize a Mental Health Awareness Day on 17th March to raise awareness about
mental health issues and promote mental health wellbeing.

Objectives: The objectives of the Mental Health Awareness Day are as follows

1. To raise awareness about the importance of mental health and wellbeing among
students, teachers, and staff.
2. To promote a positive attitude towards mental health and reduce the stigma associated
with mental health issues.
3. To provide students with the necessary tools and resources to manage their mental
health and wellbeing effectively.
4. To encourage students to seek help when needed and support their peers in doing the
same.
5. To facilitate an open discussion about mental health issues and provide a safe space for
students to share their experiences and feelings.

Activities: The Mental Health Awareness Day will comprise a range of activities that cater to
different age groups and interests. Some of the activities include:

1. Mental Health Assembly: An assembly will be held to kickstart the day's activities. The
assembly will include talks by mental health experts and students who have dealt with
mental health issues.
2. Workshops: A series of workshops will be held throughout the day to equip students with
practical skills to manage their mental health. The workshops will cover topics such as
stress management, mindfulness, and coping with anxiety.
3. Art Therapy: Art is a great way to express emotions and relieve stress. An art therapy
session will be held for students to explore their feelings and emotions through art.
4. Outdoor Activities: Exercise and fresh air are great for mental health. Students will be
encouraged to participate in outdoor activities such as yoga, meditation, and sports.
5. Peer Support: Students will be encouraged to support each other by sharing their
experiences and listening to each other. Peer support groups will be formed to facilitate
this.

Conclusion: The Mental Health Awareness Day at the British School of Kampala on 17th March
aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote mental health wellbeing. The
activities planned for the day will provide students with the necessary tools and resources to
manage their mental health effectively. By facilitating an open discussion about mental health
issues and reducing the stigma associated with mental health, we hope to create a supportive
and inclusive environment where students can thrive.
