INTRODUCTION

This group carried out an investigation to find out if discrimination in the business “Centre for
Local Business Development-Guyana” affects people mentally and physically. This popular
business is located on South Road, Georgetown Guyana. Gender discrimination is the
disadvantageous treatment of an individual or group of individuals based on his/her gender.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Topic: Female discrimination

What are the causes and effects of female discrimination in the Centre for Local Business
Development- Guyana?
REASON FOR SELECTING TOPIC

In choosing this topic, it was decided to investigate the causes, effects, and also solutions to
female discrimination throughout the years. Discrimination against women especially young
women who are now entering the workforce, for instance, was one of the factors that prompted
the selection of this topic.

Objectives

 Finding out if the women of this business experience female discrimination

 How does this problem affect women mentally and physically?
 Finding ways to reduce/stop discrimination against women
METHOD OF INVESTIGATION

As part of our investigation into this issue, our group distributed printed questionnaires to gather
all the information needed for the survey.
Choosing the questionnaire has a lot of advantages:

 It can be completed at the convenience of the individual who needs it.

 It's classified as a person who doesn't have to write their name
 This is done in no time
INSTRUMENT USED TO COLLECT DATA

Dear citizens,

I have prepared a survey which is being carried out in this work establishment, to
find out more about the discrimination experienced by women within this workplace. This

derogatory names and 4 go to being paid less.
Findings
The findings are:

1. The main reason for how women is affected by being discriminated in

workplaces are women are feeling less of themselves which accounts for
63%.
2. The main problem for women being discriminated in workplaces is not
being promoted compared to male staff who are in the same position which
accounts for 10 persons choosing so.
3. In order to reduce the problems faced, 8 of the respondents stated a
punishment should be enforced that male staffs should be fired for
discriminating females at the workplaces.
Recommendations

After conducting an investigation in Centre for Local Business Development-Guyana, the

researchers gathered possible solutions that would lower the occurrence of discrimination in the
workplace. These solutions being:

• Ensure all employees are paid equally.

Ensure your company practices an equal pay rule. By conducting timely audits to check
the salaries given to both males and females in the same role are equally paid.
• Provide equal development opportunities
Usually, men predominantly participate in development opportunities to improve their roles in a
workplace, but it would be best to us this opportunity to provide and encourage more women to
learn new skills.
• Focus on the wellbeing and mental health of employees
Many employees are subjected to mental illnesses like anxiety and depression due to excessive
work pressure or discrimination. Make mental and physical wellness checks a common practice
to maintain an empathetic but productive work environment.
• Take sexual harassment cases seriously
As an employer, you should take sexual harassment cases very seriously. Think carefully about
the way the complaint is handled. Ensure it is done fairly and notify everyone involved that the
complaint will be processed and investigated.
When you're talking to someone about their sexual harassment complaint, think carefully about
what you say to them. Some things will not be appropriate or acceptable. For example, telling the
victim it could be a long and difficult process, or ask them if they're sure they want to go ahead.
This implies the idea that you don’t want to take the complaint seriously.

It's important to remember that sexual harassment is unwanted behavior of a sexual nature and
complaints on the matter must not be ignored or covered up. As an employer it is your
responsibility to maintain a safe work environment for your staff. Follow a full and fair
procedure on disciplinary if the accused is found guilty.

Though these changes may be small, it would be best to implement them into your company to
maintain a proper work environment.
