The Medieval

Church
Presented by: Group 2
The Medieval Church is the
Church in the Middle Ages.
Middle Ages stand in
between the ancient and the
modern times which is a
long span of years, almost a
millennium.
Due to northern tribes
migrating throughout
Europe, the Roman Empire
started to deteriorate. City
after city was pillaged by
the barbarian tribes until
Rome was taken.
Barbarian tribes plundered city after
city until Rome itself was taken.
Due to the loss of government and
educational institutions, civilisation in
Europe came to an end with the fall of
the Roman Empire. In that time, the
Church acted as a stabilizing force.
Through the universities and
monasteries the Church founded,
education was preserved and promoted
responsible leadership among the local
chieftains and kings.
The medieval Church faced corruption,
heresy, and power struggles. It also
faced several challenges from divisions
such as Great Schism and the birth of
other religions due to the problems
created by the alliance between the
church and the state.
The Great Schism was a
formal separation of the
two churches which
happened in the
eleventh century
There we're also
the years of the
Infamous
Crusades and the
Inquisition.
