DECLARATION

I, OKO-JAJA ISAAC ISAAC hereby declare that this report was done by me under the
supervision of Mr. Kingdom Umah and Mr. Okon Enoh for the purpose of awarding a
bachelor of technology in Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I sincerely express my profound gratitude to God Almighty for his love, inspiration,
provision and above all, for his faithfulness towards me throughout the duration of this
project report. I also like to thank the industrial training fund for their foresight in putting this
program to place and also to the Chemical/Petrochemical Department, Rivers State
University for providing the platform on which I was in the training.

And also to my lovely mother MRS BLESSING A OKO JAJA, uncles and friends.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to my Industrial Supervisor Mr. Kingdom Umah and Mr.
Okon Enoh for their relentless effort and guidance throughout the period of attachment.
ABSTRACT

This technical report covers a review of work undertaken and skill acquired during the
students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at Chemical/Petrochemical
Laboratory Port Harcourt from April 2018 to September 2018.

The nature of the work undertaken include: production of ethanol from palm wine,
production of bar soap, determination hydrocarbon content in soil, production of essential oil
from orange peel, determination of pH of a substance, determination of water hardness,
determination of conductivity, determination of corrosion rate in water etc. I was also
involved in production of liquid soap.

This report gives concise information on all the subjects matter mentioned above and defines
the experience gained. It also highlights some problems I encounter during the process of
acquiring this experience and few recommendations that I think will help improve the
purpose of this program.
