“Toward a Sustainable World”

Directions: Research Work: Google on the United Nations program on sustainable

development, write an academic paper on this topic.

Sustainable is defined as being able to continue over a period of time. In our world we
need a sustainable development especially we are amidst of COVID 19 where in many
people are affected and struggling in life that is why the United Nations adopted the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, in 2015 as a
universal call to action to end poverty, protect the environment, and ensure that by
2030, all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

There are 17 Goals to the said adopted program. First Goal: "No Poverty". On a Global
level, the proportion of people living in extreme poverty has decreased from 36% in
1990 to 10% in 2015. However, the rate of change is slowing, and the COVID-19 crisis
threatens to reverse decades of progress in the fight against poverty. According to new
research from the UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research, the
economic fallout from the global pandemic could increase global poverty by up to half a
billion people, or 8% of the total human population. This would be the first time in thirty
years, since 1990, that global poverty has increased. Second Goal: "Zero Hunger", As
shown in the World Food Programme, 135 million people are starving as a result of
man-made conflicts, climate change, and economic downturns. The COVID-19
pandemic has the potential to double that number, putting an additional 130 million
people at risk of going hungry by the end of 2020. With over a quarter of a billion people
potentially on the verge of starvation, immediate action is required to provide food and
humanitarian relief to the most vulnerable regions. Third Goal: "Good Health and Well
Being", Where in they are ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at
all ages is essential to sustainable development because our world is currently
experiencing a global health crisis unlike any other COVID-19 is causing human
suffering, destabilizing the global economy, and upending the lives of billions of people
worldwide. Fourth Goal : "Quality Education", they say that Education is the key to
success through Education promotes upward socioeconomic mobility and is essential
for escaping poverty. Over the last decade, significant progress has been made in
increasing access to education and school enrollment rates at all levels, particularly for
girls. Nonetheless, approximately 260 million children remained out of school in 2018,
nearly one-fifth of the global population in that age group. Furthermore, more than half
of all children and adolescents worldwide do not meet minimum proficiency standards in
reading and mathematics. Fifth Goal of the program is "Gender Equality", Gender
equality is not only a basic human right, but it is also a prerequisite for a peaceful,
prosperous, and sustainable world.

Furthermore, the sixth goal is "Clean Water and Sanitization" because we need fresh

and clean water in order to survive in this world. That is why we must conserve water.
Seventh Goal : Affordable and Clean Energy. We cannot be sustainable without energy.
That is why Access to electricity has begun to accelerate in poorer countries, energy
efficiency is improving, and renewable energy is making impressive gains in the
electricity sector. All the same, greater focus is required to improve 3 billion people's
access to clean and safe cooking fuels and technologies, to expand the use of
renewable energy beyond the electricity sector, and to increase electrification in Sub-
Saharan Africa. Eighth Goal is Decent Work and Economic Growth. Sustainable
economic growth will necessitate societies creating conditions that allow people to work
in high-quality jobs in order for them to survive and provide their needs in their everyday
life. Ninth Goal is Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. In order to achieve sustainable
development we need some modern industry, innovation and infrastructure especially
our world is accelerating day by day. Tenth Goal is Reduced Inequalities, Inequality
both within and between countries is a persistent source of concern. Despite some
encouraging signs of progress toward reducing inequality in some areas, such as
reduced relative income inequality in some countries and preferential trade treatment for
low-income countries, inequality persists. In order to reduce inequalities, policies should
be universal in nature, with a focus on the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized
population

Sustainable development is the concept that human societies must live and meet their
needs without jeopardizing future generations' ability to meet their own needs. In
particular, sustainable development is a method of organizing society in order for it to
exist in the long run. This entails taking into account both current and future imperatives,
such as environmental and natural resource preservation, as well as social and
