COMICS FOR CHANGE

An innovative tool for Social behavior Change Communication (SBCC)
for generating dailogue through comics

The Social Behavioral Communication tool

The tool is to be referred as “Comics for Change” or “C4C” which is an event based
workshop for 3 consecutive days with distinctive stakeholder participation under one
roof for knowledge and skill based learning. The main objective of the workshop
initiative is to create a pool of Master Trainers who will then cater to large audience
on C4C and facilitate promote behavior change and best practices. Comic for Change
will is a driving force mechanism in the creation of agents of change.

Stimulus behind the development of the tool

Comics in the modern world comes with distinctive elements and human characters
displayed in a humors manner to entertain, engage and invite attention of the
individuals on a particular content with a purpose. Certainly the question on
motivation for comics drawn from the ancient times and medieval times to now in the
modern times is unavoidable. The world has experience a structural change in every
sphere of life and this change has been beneficial for humankind. The change in
behavior throughout the blossomed as an integral activity in formation of society
with distinct cultures and linguistic patterns, keeping the tradition intact and
influencing societies for a socio-economic change.
Measurable outcome and promotional mechanism
Comics have given a new direction to representation of silences thereby creating a
revolution in itself. These comics are easy–to-make, reproduced by simple
photocopier and distributed in a limited demarcated area, which invites local debates
among people from different socio-economic stratum of the society. The simplicity
of its approach lies in the fact that it just requires a pen, paper and something to say
or in other words, requires the lines to speak for themselves. What makes these
comics different from a professional creation is the ownership on the content as well
as local settings and drama. The comics are pasted up in all possible locations i.e.
village's meeting place, Community sanitary complexes, haat bazaar shops, offices,
schools, on notice-boards and electricity poles or even on trees. One more important
thing in these comics creates an awesome string between the creator of the
communication and the readers. The use of Comics is relatively a new phenomenon to
generate dialogue and raised the issue by the local through locals in simple way with a
fusion of fun element and sarcasm.
