Abstract
 STUDENT ATTENDANCE SYSTEM USING FACE RECOGINITION

There is no reason that a critical educational practise like attendance should be viewed in the
old, tedious manner in this age of rapidly evolving new technologies. In the conventional
method, it is difficult to manage large groups of students in a classroom. Since it takes time
and has a high risk of error when entering data into a system, it is not recommended. Real-
Time Face Recognition is a practical method for dealing with a large number of student’s
attendance on a daily basis. Many algorithms and techniques have been developed to improve
face recognition performance, but our proposed model employs to determine the positive and
negative characteristics of the face, as well as the LBPH (Local binary pattern histogram)
algorithm for face recognition. The system works by capturing the image of each student as
they enter the classroom and comparing it with the images in the database. If the face
matches, the system automatically marks the student as present. The system is designed to
work in real-time, providing accurate attendance data to teachers and administrators.

The use of face recognition technology in student attendance systems has several
benefits. Firstly, it eliminates the possibility of proxy attendance, ensuring that only the actual
student is marked as present. Secondly, it reduces the time and effort required to take
attendance, freeing up teachers to focus on teaching. Finally, it provides accurate attendance
data, which can be used to monitor student performance and identify areas where additional
support is required. In conclusion, the student attendance system using face recognition is a
significant advancement in attendance management technology. It streamlines the attendance
process, reduces the workload on teachers, and provides accurate attendance data, making it
an essential tool for educational institutions.
