Foreword

The workshop documentationfor the Boxster model has the designation"Boxster" Technical Manual
and contains Technical Information as well as instructions on Repairs.

The integration of the technical informationpublishedin the "Boxster"Technical Manualwith the

descriptive matter on repairs provides the user with a complex referencework that combines into one
book associated or cross-referencedmaterial of relevanceto workshops and originating from various
information media.

The "Boxster"Technical Manualconsists of 15 folders, subdividedinto the following Groups

Note
For removal ("Removing oil protection tube"), the cylinder-headcover must be heated in the area
of the oil protection tube. Two different methods can be used for this:

First method: Heat cylinder-headcover in the area of the oil protection tube using an industrial
hot-air gun.

Second method: Warm engine up to operating temperature,

The second method is preferrable if no further asselmbly work has to be performed,

e.g. sealing cylinder-head cover, replacing tensioning element (VarioCam) or replacing
the flat-base tappets, etc.

Filling in coolant and bleeding

Note

The engine cooling system is factory-filledwith

a lifetime engine coolant. This engine coolant
must not be mixed or replaced with other
coolants. Use only original Porsche coolant
when changing or topping up the engine coolant.

1. Removeboth caps (engineoil and coolant).

2. Levercover off with a spatula.

cardiagn.com
407-96

4. On Tiptronic vehicles,the pneumatically

triggered coolant shutoffvalve (flat-seatvalve)
must be opened for the bleeding process.
The electric switch-overvalve must be
switched off for this purpose.

3. Lift bow on bleeder valve. Screw oil cap on

again.

directly to the next work step if

10. Allow erlgine to run an additional 5 minutes

at ~ 2500 rpm. Every 30 seconds, briefly
rev up the engine to -5000 rpm. Rpm
surges are important for proper bleeding.

Note I

The level W~rninglight can light up during the

bleeding process (reset by restarting the
engine). Interruptthe procedure if the coolant
level is belowthe "MIN"mark. Open reservoir
with extreml caution and allow overpressure to

escape until the coolant level reaches the lower

edge of the filler neck; top up with coolant if

necessary. gain intermittently rev the engine
