THE DISADVANTAGEOUS OF KTMB WEBSITE

NAME: AFIQ BIN AHYAUDIN

STUDENT ID: MD 200101

PROGRAM: DIGITAL MEDIA DESIGN

SEMESTER: 5

SESSION: JULY - DIS 2022

Introduction
In this case study, the report is based around functionality and the principle
unity of a web design. The focus of this study is on the functionality, user friendliness
and the design principle that is applied. The website that is chosen is KTMB website.
It is a type of mixed dynamic and static website. The website is targeted for,
commuters and travellers that is using train service. The website applies the basic
functionality and is able to deliver its purpose for people that browse through their
website. It has been able to fulfil the need but it is lacking some aspect. This will be
further expanded and explained as to how and why it needs changes.
Website Issues
One of the first problems can be noticed easily through the design of the main
page. It is one of the most basic rules of the principles. It should note that the most of
the principles can be used and applied and in some case few of the principles is
applied mostly because of uniformity or design aesthetic or functionality. One of the
problems the main page suffers is through the use of typography.

The use of legible font is important because it helps users browse the site easily and
is one of the most important aspect. It should note that the use of font plays an
important role and any creative or “crazy” fonts is discouraged to help the readability
of the site.

Another aspect to note is the design aspect of the main website. It uses
background animation which is good but the added table on top of it negates the
design aspect as there is no uniformity and flow of the creative design. The problem
that the sites faces is the look or image as it is important to showcase the company
image or branding.

The use of uniformed colors is cluttered and not well thought. The readability and the
flow of top to bottom would make it strange. Although the use of multiple section of
button to represent different route is good but should have a sense of flow and
uniformity.
Additionally, the use of space is important in the principle. It helps with the eys
and makes it more relax when viewing. The space would be able to help the eyes
from straining from viewing too long.

For this website, the space is not properly used and there is a lot of it making
it look like its empty. The space is there for it be filled and used with several element
but it will look bare if it is not used fully. It is better for the website for it to have some
sort of space and contrast to balance it.
Suggestions and Improvements
KTMB Bhd website would be best created with more uniformity and unity in
mind. The main functionality of the website is fine and has been useful thus far for
the users of the website. However, it can be further improve with proper use of
typography with large letters for the button to make it easier for users. Another
suggestion that might be able to help the website would be making the site more
uniformed in appearance. Rather than using multiple colours and patterns it would
be best if the website applies the colours of the company and make it more
uniformed and have a sense of unity in design. Lastly the thing to improve the
website would be the use the large space properly and not make it bare. It is much
better for the overall design for the website to have a sense of balance.
In conclusion, with the proper design, planning and execution the website
would be better. The users of the web will have easier access to information and
user friendliness would improve. KTMB Bhd website would still retain in functionality
as it is important for commuters and travellers. It is important to note that
functionality always takes precedent because people use the site to find relevant
info. In time with proper redesign and KTMB website would be well designed with
ease of access and user friendliness.
