Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.

(born November 20, 1942) is an American politician who


is the 46th and current president of the United States. A member of the Democratic
Party, he previously served as the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017 under
President Barack Obama and represented Delaware in the United States Senate from
1973 to 2009.

Biden was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New Castle County,
Delaware. He graduated from the University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School. He
was elected to the New Castle County Council in 1970 and the United States Senate
in 1972, at age 29. He was reelected to the Senate six times, and was the chairman
of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1987 to 1995.

In 1988, Biden ran for president of the United States, but withdrew from the race
after it was revealed that he had plagiarized a speech by British Labour Party
leader Neil Kinnock. He returned to the Senate and was reelected in 1992, 1998,
2004, and 2008.

In 2008, Biden was elected vice president under Barack Obama. He was reelected in
2012. As vice president, Biden oversaw the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
of 2009, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the
American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.

In 2020, Biden ran for president again. He defeated incumbent president Donald
Trump in the general election. Biden was inaugurated as president on January 20,
2021.

As president, Biden has focused on addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic
recovery, and climate change. He has also rejoined the Paris Agreement and ended
the travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries.

Biden is the oldest person to assume the presidency of the United States. He is
also the first Roman Catholic president since John F. Kennedy.
