INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT Mass gatherings medicine is a developing field of medicine aim to deal
with the higher incidence of injury and illness related to mass gathering,
THE THEME as mass gathering is subjected to a wide range of health issue with
variable severity ranging from mild upper respiratory tract infection to
shock or even death. Mass gathering contributes significantly to the
effective evaluation of health risks, and managements of health
incidence during mass gathering.
Hajj and pilgrims medicine is an example of an annual religious mass
gatherings with millions of Muslims from all over the world which
carries a health challenges against a variety of diseases. However, the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made a huge effort in that field manifested by
the magnificent annual reduction of serious health incidence, and the
adequate management of such health incidence.
What have you noticed about the theme in the In literature, there are diverse definitions of mass gathering ranging
from 1000 to 25000 people. The most accepted definition is "a
literature? temporary collection of at least 1000 persons gathered at a specific
location for a defined period of time for a common purpose".1 The
factors that influence the health care demand during mass gathering can
be divided to three categories include the biomedical, environmental

and psychological factors, which impact on the number and nature of

health incidence during mass gathering. Health risks acquired in mass
gathering are categorized into four categories; communicable diseases,
gastrointestinal disorders, non-communicable diseases and fire and
trauma. Examples of mass gatherings include fairs festivals, sport events
like Olympics, rock concerts, conventions, conferences, political rallies
and religions gathering like Hajj and Umra.

The Hajj is considered one of the major annually recurring planned

mass gatherings worldwide. Pilgrims attending Hajj or Umra yearly is
about 10 million, originate from 184 countries. The efforts and
resources that the supreme Hajj committee planned to face health risks
categorized into efforts before the Hajj season, during the Hajj season
and regulations for coming pilgrims. Moreover, it ensues appropriate
infections control in term of substances for hand disinfection, surgical
tool sterilization, and hospital disinfection. Furthermore, the supreme
Hajj committee have issued vaccination to be taken by pilgrims before
every season which includes meningococcal meningitis, yellow fever
and influenzas vaccine.
Which new insights have you gained from the  Mass gathering is a specific term applied for a temporary
collection of at least 1000 person, in a specific location, for a
discussion in the coaching group? definite period of time.
 Mass gathering medicine is the field of medicine that deals
with the evaluation of possible health risks prior to an event,
and dealing with health risks during an event, and
documentation of this risks after the event.
 Health care demands during mass gathering are influenced
by number of factors which impact on the number and nature
of health incidences.

 The Hajj is an important planned, annually recurring,

 The efforts of the supreme Hajj committee influence the

the medical volunteers contribute significantly to the
effectiveness of the health care services not only in term of
avoiding health risks but dealing with and caring about
existing diseases.
As treating physician, the public health and preventive medicine is
crucial part of the provision of health, and mass gatherings is a definite
encounter during a physician lifetime wither spontaneously, or planned.
Thus, knowledge about mass gathering medicine in such early time of
physician career will contribute significantly to the adequate planning
prior to, management during and reporting after a mass gathering.
Moreover, having the chance to be part of mass gathering medicine
during the annual Hajj season is terrific way to acquire the experience
while a student, with the higher aim of being part of the organizing
committee involved in the planning and arrangement of such holy event
in the future.

Conclusion: Mass gathering medicine is a crucial in dealing with the

significantly to the avoidance and adequate management of health risk.

Moreover, the Kingdome of Saudi Arabia is a role model in the
sophisticated health outcomes of Hajj 2017, as it goes beyond the
avoidance of health risk to the optimum care of the existing chronic
disease.

Discussion evaluation: The theme topics objectives presentations were

comprehensive and inclusive particularly in term of the theoretical part,
while the discussion was highly effective in the objectives related to the
personal feedback about the efforts and resources of the supreme of
Hajj, and the individual experiences of mass gathering medicine at one's
community level. However, the group members exhibit a noticeable
variation in their level of contribution to the discussion which affect the
outcomes of discussion in term of sharing variety of experiences and
opinions. Being a leader in the future require a lot of dedication and
enthusiasm that must by highlighted from such group meetings and
conversation.
