The document discusses how a healthy environment is necessary for human survival, but that environmental issues like global warming and pollution threaten the environment. It describes how corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities that companies undertake, like reducing carbon emissions and waste, can help address these issues. Specifically, the document notes that the Indian government made CSR mandatory, which has encouraged many companies to protect the environment through their CSR programs. However, more collective action is still needed from governments, organizations, and individuals to counterbalance the environmental damage caused by human activities.

Environment is a major support for humans to survive on earth. Environment it is
surrounding in which plants, animals, humans live and operate. Each and every living organism require healthy environment to survive. Healthy Environment refers to surrounding or habitat that are healthy, a environment that is not exposed to any kind of environmental issues. Today not only humans are facing so many issues and problems, environment is also facing it’s own issues and problems. Few examples of environmental issues are global warming, ozone layer depletion, acid rain, polluted resources etc. The main source of these environmental issues are humans and their activity. Human activities leading to environment pollution are using of refrigerants which release harmful aerosols, release of harmful gases in atmosphere, excess of use vehicles As human activities are a major source of environmental issues, so, we humans need to come froward to protect and save our environment. Many steps are being taken by government, N.G.O’s, even by few individuals to protect environment. One to step taken by private organisation is C.S.R activity. C.S.R stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. C.S.R activities are self -regulated activities that a business can take in order to be more socially accountable to it’s stakeholders and general public. If a company is taking C.S.R activities seriously it means it is more socially responsible to society. Four types of C.S.R activities are:- Environmental social responsibility Ethical/human rights social responsibility Philanthropic corporate responsibility Economic corporate responsibility India is the first country in world to make C.S.R mandatory. Few examples of C.S.R activities are ;- *Reducing carbon footprint *Engaging in charity work *Purchasing fair trade products *Investing in environmentally conscious businesses *Getting involved in volunteer work *Improving labour policies Few organisations which are aiming at upskilling students are selecting students for their upskill program for free of cost through C.S.R activities Infosys Limited is the company which does the most C.S.R, next to it comes the ITC Limited By making C.S.R activity mandatory, many companies are taking steps to protect environment by means of C.S.R activity. Few international Companies that are involved in environmental related C.S.R activities are:- 1. Starbucks 2. Marc Jacobs 3. Indigo Reach 4. IKEA 5. Bosch 6. Ben and Jerry’s 7. Apple 8. Coca-Cola 9. Alaska Airlines 10. BMW 11. Dell 12. Walt Disney Company Standard environmental CSR activities include :- Recycling Waste reduction Reducing water consumption Reducing energy use Reducing plastic consumption Using renewable energy providers Reducing GHG emissions Adopting sustainable transport policies These C.S.R activities are of course a good cause to society. The C.S.R activities related to environment are helping a lot in protecting environment from major environment issues. The decision by Indian government to make C.S.R activities mandatory made a lot of companies to take an initiative to take a step for improvement of society. Government is taking many steps to protect environment, private companies are taking to protect environment by means of C.S.R activities, many N.G.O’s are also working to protect environment. But still environment is suffering from environment issues because activities of humans which are causing environment issues are in greater quantity when compared to steps taken by humans to solve environment issues. It takes a huge time to get any kind of result for step taken to protect environment for example you take bike and go on it , at that same instant the gas released from bike contributes to environment pollution, but when you plant a seed ,take proper care of it then after few week the plant grows so it needs time to protect environment. As an individual we need to take steps to protect environment. If we consider three-fourth of world’s population is causing environment issues then at least half of the world’s population should be involved in taking steps to protect environment. For humans to survive on earth, the environment should survive. As a country is developing, it’s environment’s condition is degrading No matter how much a country is economically wealthy To survive the environment should be healthy Let us plant more trees, decrease the usage of vehicles as much as possible, follow principle of 3R’s that is reduce , recycle ,reuse ,reduce use of plastics , all harmful effluents must be treated in appropriate way, all harmful element should be replaced by less effecting elements.
