Chapter 2

(PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2)
The Effects of Parental support to the academic
behavior of DEIHS-SHS students.

Review Related Literature

This chapter presents relevant research that the researcher felt to be important
to support the significance of the current study. This contains readings and
literature from different sources like journals, books, articles, and websites.
Introduction
Parents play a big factor in the development of their children, as they develop
into adulthood and learn the abilities needed to move through life. As a parent,
one of your key responsibilities is to have an impact on how academics are
conducted. should be pursued and accomplished throughout a lifetime. Academic
well-being is very important with regards to a child's life outcomes (Journal of
psychology 2015) Epstein made the implication that parents who are involved and
educated about their children's education can positively affect their attitude and
performance.

The Importance of Parental Support

According to Amposah, milledzi, Ampofo and Gyambrah (2018) they found that
there is a significant positive relationship between parental support and academic
success and behavior of the student. Parents should take initiative in advancing
their children’s education (i.e., of behavior of the student in classroom because
they are the primary teachers and first socializers, introducing them to education
and behavioral world.

In the article of The Importance of Parental Involvement in Teaching emphasize

that parental support can benefit all students. Feeling their parents’ support,
students become more motivated and develop a love of learning. Be educated in
parental support toward the child it can helps to improve the communicating.
Hitchinson (2020) state that Parental participation improves academic
performance as well as the attitudes and behaviors of the students. A parent's
interest in and support of their child's education can have an impact on the child's
motivation, self-esteem, attitude toward school, and behavior in class.
However According to Coleman (1988) Josephine katenga (2022), parents can give
their kids social capital when they have a connection to the school and cooperate
to promote the wellness of the students, which helps in the transition of the kids
to school life, it can help the student to improve more if the parents have a
responsibility on their children.
Parental support
Parental support is important in the Philippine society because family is viewed
as a center to one's social world. But social contexts in which Filipino families are
embedded have changed rapidly over the past ten years (Ochoa & Torre)
On the other side, some students may suffer from parental engagement, which
could have a negative impact on their academic performance (Kwon, Yoo &
Bingham, 2016; LeMoyne & Buchanan, 2011)

Conceptual Framework

Independent Variable. Dependent Variable

Parental support Academic behavior

Synthesis
This study revolves around two variables
1. Parental support
2. Academic behavior
Lourdes Mata (2018) and Francisco Peixoto (2018) said when parents are
involved, children are more engaged and responsible for their education, look for
difficult tasks, persevere through scholastic difficulties, exhibit greater effort,
focusing, paying attention, and feeling more capable.
Having a lack of parental support can affect the behavior of students. It can cause
low self-esteem (van Roekel, 2011) Parents are involved in their kids' life.
Supportive, Parents offer support and encouragement and emotional support
warmth to their child throughout adolescence (Murray Atkins 2015) Many
children succeed in various aspects of life, while others seem to lose sight of who
they are and what is important because of low parental support they receive,
they can’t do anything but be an independent. They seek attention.
However, fedena (2019) said as a result of their parents' assistance in getting
them ready for school each day, these students, for example, have a better
attendance record. These students also do better while completing homework or
turning in assignments on time because of the support and direction they receive
at home. However, students who don't have parents that are encouraging must
fight alone. Their self-esteem also suffered as a result, which had a negative
impact on their performance and behavior. This represents that parental support
is involved in education.

Hypothesis
From the following stated above, the following hypothesis formulated:
H01: There is no significant relationship between parental support in academic
behavior.
H02: there is no significant effect between the support that parents give to their
children.

H03: The learning of adolescents is unaffected by parental assistance.

H04: Children's actions are not the fault of their parents because they make their
own life decisions.

Definition of terms

For better understanding of the study, the following words are conceptually and
operationally defined:

Academic behavior. It pertains to the actions that are strongly associated with
being a "good student," including showing up prepared to work (with the required
tools and supplies), attending class on a regular basis, paying attention, and
engaging in class, and dedicating time outside of school to studying and finishing
assignments (Farrington et al., 2012).

Effects. it refers to the impacts of how the student is involved in parental support.

Parental support. It is the way parents show their care towards their children.
parental support can be financial, emotional, physical, or material things. refers to
