LETTERS TO GOD

Hi today im going to review ‘LETTERS TO GOD’ by Norhafsah Hamid

So letters to god was written back in 2018 when she was studying in the United Kingdom
and she used to have this habit of writing a diary.

So oneday she thought to herself;

why not write to God?
why not we talk to God?
because its the same as if we’re are talking to God in our prayer but instead we are writing
to him outside of our prayer. And she also believe that one can talk to God at any time of the
day and not just in our prayer

This book talks about a young girl named Sarah who is an introverted person. So Sarah is
doing her law degree in the United Kingdom and so when she was studying there, she was
struggling to balance between her work life, social life and the spiritual longing in her and
there are a lots of issues going on in her life at that moment. To the point that she felt like
she have no one that she could trust, anyone she could share her problem with. So she
decided to write letters to God, where she personally telling him about her day-to-day life,
where she rant and complained about everything that is going on in her life

So what do i love abt this book

First, is how this book makes you feel as if you are reading another person’s diary. as we
know a diary is supposed to be someone secrets property right
But this one makes me feel like i have the right to read someone’s diary

it makes you feel as if whatever Sarah is doing whatever Sarah is going through in her life,
you are going through it too, and whatever Sarah is feeling at the moment you are feeling it
too
so thats what make it a fun reading.

Another thing I like about this book is the concept of writing to God itself. so who would
have thought that we can write to God at the same time you are making a dua’ to him, we
are asking him to send us help, asking him to ease the burden for us but in the form of
writing.

And also by writing to god we actually know that we are not just talking to anybody, we are
talking to the creator he is the all knowing he knows what we are going to write even before
we write it. This make it feel as if we are not going through it alone so we write it down. but
the main thing that I like the most about this book, there are certain pages of the book with
a small numbering where the small number will require you to open to the back of the
chapter for Quran verses and hadith that is related to the part of the story.

For example there’s this moment where one of Sarah’s Malaysian friend Linda, was accusing
and provoking Sarah for the thing that she did not do but what Sarah did was just she
remained silent and never had she ever talked back to Linda whenever she accused her that
way
As a reader myself I do have my point of view, so when I read that part I felt that Sarah is not
doing the right thing why didn’t she stand up for her right? why didn’t she defend herself
when she know that she is not wrong? and why didn’t she talk to Linda? why did she remain
silent?

so there is this small numbering at that part of the story which when I opened to the back of
the chapter it bring me to this one beautiful Quran verse from sura al bakara sentence 153
which says “all you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer and it Allah is
with the patient”

so when I read that, it put me in the moments of silence that what I chose to do and what
Sarah chose to do was completely opposite. Sarah is trying to apply what the Quran is
teaching, which is to be patience and seek help through patience and prayer hence we have
to act with what the Quran is saying
I think, the act of ‘letters to god’ is quite reasonable
it’s either up to us whether we want to write and share story to him or we want to rant and
share it to people around us on social media and so on

So if you choose to write to him, know that we are making a deal out of him you want him to
help us as he have the answer to each of our problems we are going through, but sometimes
we chose to share it on social media

do they have the solution to our problems?

can they give us the answer that we need?

Overall i would rate this book a 9/10
