SECTION- 04001

STEEL TRUSSES & MISCELLANEOUS METAL WORK

1.0 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

This section includes miscellaneous metal work complete. Connections for which
details are not indicated shall be designed in accordance with the American
institute of Steel construction (AISC) “Manual of Steel Construction” and shall be
welded except as specified otherwise. Welding shall be done in a manner that
will prevent permanent buckling and all welds exposed in the finished work shall
be ground smooth. Steel and iron shall be standard well-finished structural
shapes, plates or bar steel or bar iron. All finished and/or machined faces shall
be true to line and level.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Reference Specifications

1.04 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Miscellaneous metal items shall be brought to the project site of proper time
so as not to jeopardize the execution of other work activities as scheduled.

B. Care shall be taken to prevent damage or injury to delivered materials
while on storage and awaiting incorporation into the project.

2.0 PRODUCTS

2.01 Materials

A. Anchor bolts, toggle bolts, and sag rods shall conform to the latest
edition of American Standard for Testing and Materials (ASTM A307),
Low Carbon Steel Externally and Internally Threaded Standards
Fasteners.

B. Screws shall be of a standard commercial grade, as approved by the


Architect and of the sizes and types indicated.

C. Structural carbon steel for plates, angles or shapes shall conform to the
least revision of ASTM A36, Structural Steel.

D. Bolts, nuts and washers shall be zinc-coated regular commercial, grade


size as indicated and shall be grade A, and shall conform to ASTM A307
as previously specified.

E. Expansion shields shall be of style, type, class and group suited for the
purpose or as indicated. Shields shall be accurately recessed and unless
otherwise indicated shall not be less than 2 inches into concrete or
masonry.

F. Pipe railings shall be standard weight steel pipe conforming to recent


edition ASTM A120 entitled “Black and Hot-Dipped Zinc Coated
(Galvanized) Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe for Ordinary Uses”. Pipe
railings to be pointed shall be medium gray. Where practicable, pipe
railings shall be in one piece for each run. All joints and connections in
railing shall be welded, without exposed fittings, and all changes in
directions shall be rounded neatly. railings shall be anchored securely to
continuous construction and shall be left plumb, level, and in alignment.

G. Trench and vent covers and frames shall be furnished and installed
where shown and as on the drawings. Frames shall be steel angles of
sizes shown on the drawings, anchored into concrete with bar anchors
welded to the angle at not more than 2 foot centers. Angles shall have
welded-on bar plates stops of the same thickness as the cover plates.
Covers shall be as indicated on the drawings. Covers shall be cut
accurately to required sizes with all edges ground smooth to straight
lines and fitted to frames and to each other with a tolerance of not more
than 1/16-inch. Covers shall be provided with slots for fitting. Covers
shall be fitted in frames without fasteners, or where indicated in the
drawings, be held to frames with countersunk-bend screws at 12-inch
centers. Countersunk screw holes in cover plates shall be drilled in the
shop. Holes in edge frame angles shall be drilled and threaded in place,
using the cover plates for templates.

H. Welding electrodes and rods for manual arc welding. Electrodes shall
conform to American Welding Society (AWS) A5.1 B60 or A5.50 E70

I. entitled “Mild Steel Covered Arc Welding Electrodes and Low Alloy Steel
Covered Arc-Welding Electrodes respectively.

3.01 Inspections

A. All work conform to the approved shop drawings.

B. Verify correctness of anchor bolt locations and alignment.

C. Do not start work until satisfactory conditions are corrected.

3.02 Miscellaneous metal items including accessories, incidentals, fastening and anchorages
not specifically mentioned herein or in other sections but are required to complete work,
and for which there are no detail drawings, shall be provided and installed in accordance
with best standard practice of the trades. Items that are shown diagrammatically shall be
fabricated to the contractor’s shop details as approved by the Engineer.

3.03 Workmanship and finish shall be equal to the best practice and modern shops for the
respective work. Exposed surfaces shall have a smooth finish and sharp, well defined
lines and arises. Section shall be well framed to shape and size with sharp lines and
angles; curved work shall be sprung evenly to curves. All necessary rabbets, lags and
brackets shall be provided so that the work can be assembled in a neat and substantial
manner. Holes for bolts and screws shall be drilled. Fastening shall be concealed where
practicable. Thickness of metals, and details of assembly and supports, shall provide
ample strength and stiffness. Joints exposed to the weather shall be formed to exclude
water. metal work shall be provided with the proper bevels and clearances. Work shall be
fabricated and installed in a manner that will provide for expansion and contractions,
prevent the shearing of bolts, screws and other fastening, insure rigidity, and
provide close fitting of sections.

3.04 Anchors and bolts shall be provided where indicated and where necessary for fastening
work place; they shall be embedded in the concrete and masonry as the work progress,
and shall be spaced about 2 feet on centers unless indicated or specified otherwise.
Sizes, kinds and spacings of anchors not indicated or specified shall be as necessary for
their purposes. All anchors and anchor bolts in exterior walls and exposed to weather,
shall be zinc-coated, all those in other locations shall be coated heavily with bituminous
paint.

3.05 Shop painting. All miscellaneous metal works except for galvanized surfaces and items
and steel work to be embedded in concrete, shall be shop primed and site finished.
Painting shall be as specified in Section: FIELD PAINTING.

SECTION 04002

CORRUGATED METAL ROOFING

A. CORRUGATED METAL ROOFING

SCOPE OF WORK

This Item shall consist of furnishing all plant, equipment tools, materials and labor required to
perform and complete the corrugated metal roofing, together with related accessories such as
ridge, hip rolls, valleys, gutters, flashings, straps and rivets, soldering and downspouts when
called for on the Plans all in conformity with this Specifications.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Corrugated Galvanized Iron

a. Corrugated galvanized iron (G.I) sheets, including plain G.I. sheets for roofing
accessories, shall be cold-rolled meeting ASTM-153 and with spelter coating of
zinc not less than 0.381 kg/m2.

b. Unless otherwise specified or shown on Plans, roofing sheets shall be 0.50 mm


thick provided in long span sizes to minimize end lapping.

c. Sheets shall weigh not less than 4.14 kg./m2 and shall be marked or stamped
showing the thickness, size, amount of zinc coating, brand and name of
manufacturer.

d. Test specimens shall stand being bent through 180 degrees flat on itself without
fracture of the base metal and without flaking of the zinc coatings.

ROOF ACCESSORIES:

A. Strap Fasteners

Strap Fasteners shall be 0.50 mm thick by 2.5 cm. wide and sufficiently long to bend up
to the opposite face of the purlins with corners chipped off at the riveting ends.

B. Rivets and Washers

1. Rivets and washers shall be galvanized mild iron and shall not be less
than 5mm diameter and 10 mm length.

2. Washers shall not be less 1.5 mm thick and 20 mm in outside


diameter and shall provide snug fit to the rivet.

C. Soldering Lead

Soldering lead shall have a composition of 50 percent lead, conforming to ASTM


B-32. Rivets and burrs for lap joints of gutters, downspouts and flashings shall be
copper or aluminum not less than No. 8 or 3.175 mm diameter.

D. Fabricated Metal Roof Accessories

1. Ridge, hip rolls, valleys, flashings and counter flashings, gutters and
downspouts, when ever required, shall be fabricated from plain G.I.
sheets gauge No. 26.

2. Gutters and downspouts shall be 0.60 mm thick unless otherwise


specified on Plans. Wire basket strainers shall be gauge 14,
galvanized, aluminum or stainless steel.

3. If stainless steel is specified for gutter and flashings, use gauge 24,
0.60 mm thick plain sheet with standard commercial size of 120 cm. x
240 cm. cut to sizes for fabrications.

4. Roof ventilators, whenever required, shall be fabricated from gauge 26


0.50 mm thick plain G.I. sheets and constructed to the dimensions and
details shown on Plans.

5. Bending of plain G.I. sheets for various accessories shall be done by


machine press. Hand bending shall not be permitted.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

A. Preparatory Work

1. Preparatory to the installation of the corrugated G.I. roofing, purlins should


have been placed and spaced properly to fit the length of roofing sheets to
be installed.

2. The centerline of the purlins at the end laps shall be 15 centimeters from
the bottom line of end laps and immediate purlins are placed equidistant
with each other.

3. Ascertain that the top of the purlins should be at the same plane.

B. Installation of Corrugated G.I. Sheet

1. Installation of corrugated G.I. sheets with end laps shall start at the lower
part of the roof and proceed towards the direction of monsoon wind
providing a side laps of 2-1/2 corrugations.

2. Provide an and laps of 25 cm. minimum length. Each sheet shall be


fastened temporarily by 1.83 mm diameter by 2.5 cm. long galvanized flat-
head nails at valleys of corrugations covered by side or end laps.

3. Succeeding upper rows of corrugated G.I. sheets shall be installed in the


same manner until the entire roof area is covered.

4. Valleys, ridge, hip rolls and flashings when required, shall be installed
before fastening the roofing sheets with galvanized straps and rivets or
with G.I. roofing nails and washers.

5. One strap shall be riveted at each alternate corrugation at the gutter line,
the ridge line and at end laps and the straps bent around and nailed to the
purlins.

6. Rivets shall be provided with a galvanized mild iron washer below and one
lead and one galvanized washer above the sheet.

7. Rivets shall be sufficiently long to permit forming a hemispherical head.


Riveting shall be done such that the lead washer shall be compressed to
provide a water tight fit around the rivet.

C. Installation of Roofing Accessories

1. Ridge, Hip and Valley Roll

a. Ridge and Hip rolls shall lap at least 25 cm. over roof sheets
and together shall be riveted at every second corrugation.

b. Valleys shall lap at least 45 cm. each way under the roofing
sheets and shall be secured to the framework with galvanized
nails, placed below the roof sheets.

c. Rivets along side of the valley shall be at every second


corrugation.

2. Flashing

a. Unless otherwise specified or shown on the plans, shall be from 0.50 mm


thick plain G.I. sheet and shall be installed along intersections of roofs
with concrete or masonry walls in accordance with the details shown on
Plans.

b. Flashing running parallel to sheet corrugation shall lap at least two


corrugations with edge turned down. Flashing across sheet corrugations
are at an angle thereto, shall lap at least 25cm. and edge of flashing
turned down at each corrugation.

c. The outer edge of flashing shall be secured to the roofing sheet by rivets at
least 50 cm. on center distance for flashing parallel to corrugations. And
at every third corrugation for flashing perpendicular to or at an angle with
corrugations.

d. The vertical portion of flashing adjoining wall shall be at least 20 cm.


wide and provided with counter flashing.

3. Counter Flashing

a. Counter flashing sheets of gauge No. 24 plain G.I sheet shall be built into
preformed wedge-shape groove of concrete or masonry wall.

b. The edge to be built into wall groove shall have a 2.5 cm. strip bent 45
degrees and shall be sealed in the groove with cement mortar or caulking
compound.

4. Reglets

a. Reglets, when required in connection with counter flashings, shall be


fabricated products approved by the supervising Architect or Engineer,
complete with fittings. It shall be located not less than 20 cm. or more
than 40 cm. above the roofing.

b. Reglet plugs shall be spaced not more than 30 cm. on centers. Open
type reglets shall be filled with fiber board or other suitable separator to
prevent crushing of the slot during installation.

c. The counter flashing shall be inserted into the full depth of reglet and
slightly punched every 30 cm to crimp the reglet and the counter-flashing
together.

5. Gutter

a. Gutters, from gauge 24 plain G.I. sheets, shall be fabricated to the shape and
dimensions indicated on the Plans.

b. The rear side of the gutter shall have a 12.5 mm strip bent to same angle as
the pitch of the roof and shall not be less than 1.5 cm higher than the
opposite side.
c. Gutter joints shall be flat seam folded in the direction of the water flow and
soldered evenly. Otherwise, gutter joints shall be lapped at least 2.5 cm.
fastened together with 3.175 mm diameter no. 8 copper rivets, burrs, and
sealed by soldering along both exposed edges of lap.

d. In lieu of soldering, laps may be provided with approved sealing compound.

e. Gutter shall be attached to fascia board or roof nails with galvanized nails or
screws spaced at more than 90 cm on centers and at a point slightly than
leading edge of gutter.

f. As additional support, gutter shall have plain G.I. or metal hangers 2.5 cm.
wide and 0.50 mm thick fastened to roof nailers by screw shank-type nails
and riveted
to the gutter’s leading edge.

g. Strap hangers shall be spaced not more than 90 cm. on centers. When gutter
is not fixed to fascia board or purlin, It shall be supported by wrought iron
hangers not less than 4.75 mm thick and 18 mm wide spaced at not more
than 90 cm on centers.

h. Wrought Iron (W.I.) hanger shall be fabricated to fit configuration of the gutter
and attached to fascia board or purlins with two 3.175 mm diameter x 25 mm
long flat head wood screws.

i. Gutter shall be installed with a pitch of 1 in 100 slope to downspout.

6. Downspout

a. When shown on Plans that downspouts are other than G.I. sheets, shall be
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes and fittings with dimensions indicated on the
drawings.

b. Joints shall be made with either solvent cement or rubber O rings depending
on the design of fitting for the joints.

c. Downspout if not embedded in concrete post or walls shall be secured to


adjoining wall with metal strap spaced not more than 1.0 meter apart.

7. Roof Ventilators

Roof ventilators, whenever shown on Plans shall be firmly secured to the roof
structure by means of rivets. Roof ventilators installed on the roof at places other
than the ridge shall be provided with adequate flashing around intersection with
roofing to ensure watertight joints.

8. Joints of G.I. Roofing Accessories

Soldered Joints

1. Joints made by lapping coupled with riveting shall be rendered watertight by


soldering. All edges of uncoated metal sheet to be soldered shall be pre-tinned
before soldering.

2. Soldering shall be done slowly with well heated iron in order to thoroughly heat
the seam and sweat the solder completely through the full length of the seam.

3. Upon completion of soldering, acid shall be neutralized by washing the surface


thoroughly with water.

Non-Soldered Joint of Roof Accessories

1. Non-soldered joint of roof gutters, downspouts and flashings shall be done by flat
lock seams.

2. Two adjoining edges of lock seam shall be bent 90 degrees. One bent strip shall be
at least 1.5 cm. wide and the connecting piece shall have a bent strip twice in width
which shall be bent down over the upturned narrower strip and pressed together.

3. Once properly interlocked, the joint shall be flattened such that the edge of the wider
is concealed.

Water Leak Test

1. The completed roofing shall be tested for water tightness at the side and end laps
and at joints or roofing sheets with-ridge/hop rolls, valleys and flashings by means of
water spray system.

2. The water spray system shall have nozzle which will deliver water pressure of 2
kg./cm2 and for a duration directed by the supervising Architect or Engineer.

3. All defective works as determined by this test shall be remedied by the Contractor at
his expense, and the test shall be repeated until the work is found satisfactory.

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

1. Roofing sheets shall be measured and paid for on an area basis in square meters or
part thereof. Such roofing sheets including all laps, fasteners and rivets as installed
complete and accepted.
2. Ridge/hip rolls, flashings, valleys, gutters and downspouts shall be measured in
linear meter of completed and accepted work. Such measurement shall include
necessary straps and fixings required for complete installation.

3. Roof ventilators shall be measured and paid for per unit completely installed and
accepted roofing sheets and required fabricated metal roofing accessories shall be
based on actual measurement and the corresponding contract unit price thereof.

SECTION- 04003

ROOFING & SHEET METAL

1.0 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. Furnish materials and perform all operations to provide corrugated metal


roofing and flashings complete, to include miscellaneous sheet metal
items as required to insure a watertight installation.

B. Specific installation details shall be in accordance with recognized sheet


metal installation practice.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. All materials shall be products of recognized and reputable


manufacturers.

B. Test

1. Prior to acceptance of the completed work watertight test shall


be make as follows:

a. Test roof, siding, gutters and downspouts system by


flushing and/or flooding as directed by the Architect.

b. Flood water shall be kept on gutters and downspouts for


at least one hour.

c. Leaks shall be repaired or reconstructed and test will be


repeated until work is satisfactory.

1.03 PRODUCT, DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Moulded articles shall be stacked in level using 5-centimeter x 10-


centimeter lumber approximately 46 centimeters on centers placed at
right angles to corrugation.

B. Stocks shall be kept covered and protected from the weather and from
contact with soil.

2.0 PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS

A. Galvanized steel sheets for sheet metal work shall be pre-


painted/pre-colored galvanized steel sheets and shall be of the
gage indicated.

B. Fasteners and accessories shall be as recommended by the
manufacturer, and shall be subjected to the approval of the Architect.

C. Self-drilling and thread cutting bolts shall be hardened steel, cadium-


plated and shall come complete with integral pan head and not with
neoprene gaskets, the bolt shall be 4.8 millimeters 3/16-inch diameter
and sufficient to thread thru the light gate steel framing members.

D. Rivets shall be of the pan head solid type.

E. Solder shall be of standard commercial quality as approved. Soldering


flux shall be non-injurious to galvanized surfaces.

F. Sealing materials shall be as specified in Section: SEALANT AND


CAULKING.

3.0 EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION

A. Make sure surfaces to which sheet metal are to be applied are


thoroughly clean and dry and free from any defect that may affect the
application.

B. Joint sealing material shall be provided to seal all joints in and around
sealing strips at bolt holes before inserting fasteners, for all flashing and
elsewhere as necessary to assure watertight construction.

C. Sheet metal flashing shall be secured to concrete as shown or as


approved.

D. Flashing shall be provided as indicated and where necessary to make


the work water-tight. Flashing shall not be bent into sharp angles, but
shall be worked so as large a radius as possible. Exposed edges of
counterflashing shall be folded 1.25 centimeters. End laps in counter
flashings shall not be less than 7.60 cm. and shall be made watertight
with plastic cement.

SECTION- 04004

WATER PROOFING

1.0 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

The work under this section shall include all materials, labor, equipment, tools
and facilities and the satisfactory performance of all work necessary for the
complete waterproofing of floor & roof slab and all other areas necessary for the
complete waterproofing of floor & roof slab and all other areas necessary and as
directed by the Architect to be waterproofed.

1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. All waterproofing works shall be done by a Contractor experienced and


qualified to do this particular type of work and approved by the Architect.

B. Waterproofing materials shall be delivered to the site in their original


sealed containers or packages bearing manufacturer’s name and brand
designation.

Materials stored at jobsite shall be protected from weather moisture and


extreme temperature with care.

1.03 SUBMITTAL

A. Contractor shall submit to the Architect samples of materials to be used


for approval before any work is started.

B. Contract of shall submit to the Architect actual measurements, of areas


to be waterproofed prior to application.

1.04 MATERIALS

A. Membrane waterproofing 3 ply for floor & roof slab & others.

Any and all substitution of above specified shall be with the approval of
the Architect.

2.0 EXECUTION

2.01 SURFACE PREPARATION

Provide vertical and horizontal groove 12mm x 12mm on all construction joints on
surface wherein waterproofing system shall be applied to isolate cracks in the
concrete. Any slope correction shall be undertaken after the waterproofing
system has been applied and cured.

2.02 APPLICATION

Application of waterproofing materials shall be strictly a per manufacturer’s

specifications and under the direction and guarantee of the authorized local
distributor. Fast traffic shall be allowed only after complete curing.

2.03 PROOF TESTING

The waterproofing must be allowed to cure fully before proof testing. proof testing
maybe conducted at the option of the Architect, by gently flooding the completed
waterproofed areas. Depth of the water should not exceed 25mm to prevent
overload. this shall be done by leaving the water on the area for three days prior
to any concrete tapping.

2.04 GUARANTEE

The waterproofing Contractor shall guarantee that the work specified in this
Section shall be free from defects of materials and performance and leakages for
a period of at least 5 years from date of final acceptance.

SECTION 04005-1

PRE-PAINTED METAL SHEET

SCOPE OF WORK

This Item consist of furnishing all pre-painted metal sheet materials, tools and equipment, plant
including labor required in undertaking the proper installation complete as shown on the Plans
and in accordance with this Specifications.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

All Pre-Painted metal sheet and roofing accessories shall be oven baked painted true to profiles
indicated on the Plans.

Pre-painted roofing sheets shall be fabricated from cold rolled galvanized iron sheets specially
tempered steel for extra strength and durability. It shall conform to the material requirements
defined in PNS 67 : 1985.

Profile section in identifying the architectural moulded rib to be used are : Regular corrugated,
Quad-rib, Tri-wave, Rig-wide, Twin rib, etc. Desired color shall be subject to the approval of the
Architect.

1. Gutters, valleys, Flashings, Hip, and Ridge roll shall be fabricated


from gauge 24 (.6mm) thick cold rolled plain galvanized iron sheets
specially tempered steel. Profile section shall be as indicated on the
Plans.

2. Fastening hardware shall be of galvanized iron straps and rivets. G.I.


straps are of .50 mm thick x 16 mm gauge 26 and standard G.I.
rivets.

3. Base metal thickness shall correspond to the following gauge


designation available locally as follows :

Length of roof sheets available in cut from 5 feet to 12” long. Long span length up to 18 meters.
Special length by arrangements.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

1. Before any installation begin, the Contractor shall ascertain that the top face of the purlins
are in proper alignment.

2. Correct the alignment as necessary in order to have the top faces of the purlins on an
even plane.

3. Sheets shall be handled carefully to prevent damage to the paint coating. Lift all sheets or
sheet packs on to the roof frame with the overlapping down-turned edge facibg towards
the side of the roof where installation will commence, otherwise the sheets will have to be
turned end during installation.

4. Start roofing installation by placing the first sheet in position with the down turned edge in
line with other building element and fastened to supports as recommended.

5. Place the down-turned edge of the next sheet over the edge of the first sheet, to provide
side lap and hold the side lap firmly in place. Continue the same procedure for the
subsequent sheets until the whole roofing area is covered and or adopt installation
provided and or adopt installation procedure provided in the instruction manual for each
of molded rib profile.

6. For walling applications follow the procedure for roofing but allow a minimum end lap of
10 cm. for vertical walling.

7. End Lap. In case handling or transport consideration requires to use two or more end
lapped sheets to provide full length coverage for the roof run, install each line to apex of
roof framing. Provide 15 cm, minimum end lap.

8. Anchorage. Pre-painted steel roofing sheets shall be fastened to the wood purlins with
standard length G.I. Straps and rivets.

9. For steel Frame up to 4.5 mm thick, use self-drilling screw no. 12 by 3.5 cm long
hexagonal head with neoprene washer,

10. For steel support up to 5 mm thick or more, use threaded cutting screw n0.12 by 4.0 cm
long hexagonal head with neoprene washer.

11. For side lap fastener use self drilling screw no.10 by 1.6 cm. long hexagonal head with
neoprene washer.

12. Valley fastened to lumber and for walling, use self drilling wood screw no. 12 by 2.5 cm.
long hexagonal head with neoprene washer.

13. Valley fastened to steel supports, use self drilling screws, hexagonal head with neoprene
washer, drill size is 5mm diameter.

14. In cutting pre-painted steel sheets to place the exposed color side down, cutting shall be
carried out on the ground and not over the top of other painted roofing product.

15. Power cutting or drilling to be done or carried out on pre-painted products already
installed or laid in position, the area around holes or cuts shall be masked to shield the
paint from hot fillings

16. Storage and Protection. Pre-painted steel roofing, walling products and accessories
should be delivered to the job site in strapped bundles.

17. Sheets and or bundles shall be neatly stacked in the ground and if left in the open it shall
be protected by covering the stack materials with loose tarpauline.

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

1. The work done under this item shall be measured by actual area covered or installed
with pre-painted steel roofing and or walling in square meters and accepted to the
satisfaction of the Architect or Engineer.

2. The area of pre-painted steel roofing and or walling in square meters shall be paid for
at the Unit Bid Price or contract unit price which payment shall constitute full payment
including labor, materials, tools and incidentals necessary to complete the work.

SECTION 04006

CLAY ROOF TILES

SCOPE OF WORK

This Item consist of furnishing all plant, labor tools, equipment and clay roof tiles required to
complete the roofing as shown on the Plans and in accordance with this Specifications.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Clay Roof Tiles

Clay tiles shall be manufactured from red clay specie, molded to custom tile
patterns.

It shall be kiln dried to improve natural aesthetic appearance and resistance to


erosion and withstand any climatic condition in the tropics.

Where required and indicated to be glazed, color shall be approved by the


Architect.

B. Sheating

2. Corrugated G.I. Sub-roofing shall be 0.5 mm thick long span. Plywood


sheating when used instead of G.I. shall be 12 mm thick marine plywood
treated with two piles of felt paper asphalt impregnated.

3. Wood batten shall be 2.5 cm. x 5.0 cm. pressure treated lumber properly laid
to fit clay roof tiles and accessories as indicated on the Plans.

4. Fasteners shall be non-corrosive materials. Nails shall have large head with
sufficient length to give 19 mm penetration on wood batten and #16 tie wires
to be copper or brass as the case may be.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

1. Before the work is started, the Contractor shall secure approved roof framing Plan
and determine or evaluate actual site condition.

2. In case modification is necessary, the Contractor shall submit shop drawings to the
supervising Architect or Engineer.

3. Batten roof shall be installed in straight lines, level, squared and firm. It may rest on
sheeting and anchored rigidly by means of galvanized iron straps gauge 24 thick
riveted on sheating, or nailed on top chord or jack rafter when it rests on plywood
sheating.

4. The top chord or jack rafter shall at least a minimum roof pitch of 25 degrees.

5. Plywood sheating shall be overlaid with two piles of felt paper, asphalt impregnated
to control moisture. The batten shall be spaced to fit the clay roof tiles and
accessories.

6. Gutter and valleys shall be set in place before wood battens are installed. Use gauge
24 plain galvanized iron sheet molded true to profile section indicated on the plans or
as directed by the supervising Architect or Engineer.

7. For Clay tiles on concrete roof slab provide and install pressure treated lumber 25
mm x 50 mm or metal strips properly aligned, level squared and firm.

8. Apply waterproofing on slab surface to control moisture by cold process.

9. Laying of tiles shall start at the lower layer from right to left. See to it that the left
anchorage of tile is placed near or close to hip truss as much as possible.

10. Continue to the next layer of clay roof tiles following the same procedure.

11. After clay roof tiles are laid out, mark the clay roof tiles at hips and valleys which are
to be cut using straight edge or string as guide.

12. Where tiles join a hip stringer, provide waterproof elastic cement. Cement hip roll and
ridge in lap and fasten with nails or tie wires as specified.

13. Fill voids at hip starters and ridge ends with mortar, color to match the tile.

14. Remove all debris and clean roof area ready for service.

METHODS OF MEASUREMENT

This Item shall be measured by actual roof area laid with clay tiles and accessories in square
meters or part thereof, for work completed and accepted to the satisfaction of the Architect.

BASIS OF PAYMENT

The accepted work quantified and provided in the Bill of Quantities shall be paid for at the Unit
Bid Price which constitute full payment for furnishing all materials, labor, tools, equipment and
other incidentals necessary to complete this item.

SECTION 04007

ROOF DRAINAGE

SCOPE OF WORK

This Item shall consist of furnishing all items, articles plant, equipment, labor and materials and
performing all methods necessary or required for the complete installation of all roof drains with
strainers in accordance with all applicable drawings as shown on the approved plans and the
provisions of this Specifications.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. Performing all operations or methods necessary and required for the complete installation
of all Roof Drains with strainers, including connections to downspout, in accordance with
all applicable drawings and details, and subject to the terms and conditions of the
contract.

2. Should there be any conflict between the sizes of roof drains and downspout, the size of
the latter shall govern.

3. The size of any roof drain with strainer shall follow the diameter of the corresponding roof
leader or downspout to be installed.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

A. Drainage

1. The Contractor shall provide, fit or install all necessary drains with strainers
where so shown or indicated on plans and or where the supervising Engineer
directs.

2. Each drain with strainers shall fit the size of the corresponding downspouts or
conductor over which is to be installed and in accordance with the following
schedule.

3. Over each downspouts of cast iron body lacquer finish low “Dome” roof drain
(rough brass strainer) 45 degrees threaded outlet or side outlet, respectively,
secured to clamping ring by screws.

B. Drain and Overflow Pipes

1. Concrete roof gutters or any other work which catches drains or collect rain water
shall be provided with adequate drain or overflow, pipes, one inch in diameter
pipe spaced at 2.00 meters on centers and or as specified.

2. Weep holes, where so indicated on plans, and of the size and spacing shown,
shall be provided by the contractor to allow the free flow of water to drain from
one level over lower level or to outside all in accordance with the detailed
drawings.

C. Downspout

1. All conductors or downspout encased in concrete unless otherwise shown in


drawings shall be PVC pipe as specified in plans. Size of downspout shall be as
shown or indicated on plans.

2. Downspout of all floor drains indicated on reinforced concrete gutters shall be 75


mm in diameter except where specified other use and each shall branch from the
adjacent main downspout if any as shown on plans.

3. Any drain with strainers of approved quality, locally made, in accordance with full
size details may be substituted subject to the written approval of the supervising
Architect or Engineer.

4. Should the series and type numbers specified herein be not suitable to a
particular location due to concrete space limitations, any adaptation of the series
specified of the same size, body material and finish may be substituted, subject
to the approval of the supervising Architect or Engineer.

5. Any other drain shown but not specified herein and necessary to leave the work
complete, shall be provided and installed by the contractor suitable to the service
required and fitted to the concrete limitations at the point of installation, based on
or similar as specified herein or as directed by the supervising Architect or
Engineer.

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

1. All roof drains with strainers actually installed shall be measured and determined by
the number of pieces or units ready for service as provided in the Bill of Quantities
accepted to the satisfaction of the supervising Architect or Engineer.

2. The Item measured and determined shall be paid for at the Unit Bid Price which
payment constitute full compensation of materials, labor and incidentals necessary to
complete this Item.
