What do I already know about the
story?
The plot is a comedy about two different
families going about their daily lives.
The narrative begins with the narrator
describing his family. Their farm was
destroyed by a flood, forcing them to
relocate to another town. They had a
rich family as a neighbor who was
unsociable. Despite their misbehavior,
the children of the poor family grew up
healthy. Despite having good food, the
aroma of which is enjoyed by the poor
family's children, the rich man's children
grew thin and sickly. .Looking at the
poor family's health, the rich man
jealously closes his house and accuses
the poor family of stealing the spirit of
their food. He then filed a complaint and
went to court about it. The father of the
farmer/poor family calmly pleaded his
case, taking a straw hat filled with coins
from his family and the other room. He
then shakes the coins, saying that his
family was paid with the spirit of money
for what they cost the rich man's family.
What do I want to learn about this
story?
I wanted to learn how the poor must be
resilient in the face of poverty and
injustice because of their socioeconomic
status. I want to know how the poor
family, despite their misfortune,
remained humble and joyful, how they
faced each day with a smile and
treasured the small things. The father
remained humble and did not use the
fact that he had been accused of making
an unreasonable complaint to exact
revenge on the rich man or his family.
What did I learn about this story?
The story aimed to address the
inequalities that the poor face as a result
of their socioeconomic status. It also
demonstrates how resilient they must be
in the face of poverty and injustice. And,
regardless of your wealth, do not accuse
anyone of anything unreasonable just
because you can or have the power to.
Finally, I discovered that wealth is
unimportant in the pursuit of happiness.
