Executive Summary

The topic of study was ‘‘A STUDY ON CONSUMER AWARENESS AND PERCEPTION
TOWARDS E BIKE’’ with the surge in fuel prices, the Indian automobile industry is set to bring
about a new in the two-wheeler business, one that is powered be electricity rather than gasoline
or diesel. To reduce pollution caused by vehicle, the Indian government has implemented a
number of initiatives, including tax exemptions, purchase rebates, and financial incentive for
consumer of electric bikes.
Therefore consumer awareness is of prime importance to the organization. The objective of the
study was to know about awareness of electric bike among the people and what is the about the
is perception of the users about the bikes is and to explore how the sale of electric bike can be
increased. Despite all of the measures taken and the services supplied to the public, it was
essential to understand how people would to the adoption of e bike.
The objective of the report is to identify the impact of lifestyle on the purchase of electric bike.
This study investigates customers life style about electric bike in cities as well as the factors
impacting consumers willing and awareness of electric bikes.
Varied consumer groups have different product preference. Consumer demographic parameters
such as annual income, age, gender all play role these choices. These fair view about the lifestyle
of consumers.
The data collected the project was based on primary and secondary data. The sample size
selected for the survey was 100. The primary data collected through questionnaire. The survey
data collected form direct questionnaire and interview. The collected data was analyzed and
interpreted to obtain the conclusion by using graphical representation.

A. Overview of the Industry
Introduction
The growth of air pollution in Indian urban was a cause for concern Manufactures. There are
more than 25 major Indian cities among 100 most polluted urban areas in the country World-
Nation. The causes for air pollution in urban areas is associated with an array of sources but the
division of transport makes a crucial commitment. Transport discharges are critical division is
minimal. The influence of air quality on human health and the economy is well known and, in
this sense, producers are dreaming about reducing the impact on earth on a couple of option.

Electric bikes are seen a potential for transportation, what is in addition, a few national
governments have successfully revised innovation development plans. Government are swift to
advance electric bikes as a green alternative for portability, moreover find it a realistic solution to
the elimination of air emission in urban areas.

India is a country with third-largest road network in the world. Road travel seemed to be a
preferred choice in India with 60% of the population used personal or shared vehicles to
commute. In India, electric bikes have been relatively popular, but still very little distribution
electrical power. Vehicle existed between two wheelers and urban transport. Techno-funding
anyway tests show that electric bikes can be financially feasible by 2020 and by 2030 electric
two wheeler will be prominent option for innovation, if government offers incentive charging
forces available.

The consumer to purchasing electric vehicle such as product appearance, the quality of material,
notable of brand, price, marketing promotion, research and development, quality of battery,
consumer behavior and awareness, government support policy. Additionally, the study of
demographic and lifestyle factors that affecting the decision to purchasing electric vehicle. The
issues of climate change or global warming have been discussed by many governments since the
early 21st century.

The electric vehicle industry at a nascent stage of India. It is less than 1% of the total vehicle
sales however has the potential to grow to more than 5% in a few years. At present there are
more than 5 lac electric two-wheelers and few thousand electric cars on India roads. The industry
volume have been fluctuating, mostly depending on the incentive offered by the government.
Many serious players are counting with the mission and trying to enforce the positive change
under the banner of electric vehicle.

More than 90% of electric vehicles on Indian roads are low-speed electric scooters that do not
require registration and licenses. Almost all electric scooters run on lead batteries to keep the
price low, however battery failures and low life of batteries have become a major limiting factors
for sales besides government subsidies. Many manufacturers have taken Initiatives to install the
charging station with limited success.

13
Importance

The biggest selling point for electric two-wheeler is that they are environment friendly. They do
not burn fossil fuels. This is under debate as electric required for charging these scooters is going
to be majorly produced by burning coal. Which is the largest sources of electric in the country.
Unless the government comes up with cleaner sources of electricity, this may not be the best eco-
friendly alternative. That being said, electric vehicle are significantly more environmentally
friendly as compared to fuel- powered vehicle.

While electric bikes and scooters are a more expensive to purchase compared to regular two-
wheelers the amount of money you will save on fuel in the long term this an extremely
economical choice. With rising cost, more and more people are turning to electric vehicles for
lower running vehicles.

When looking at electric scooter and bike pros and cons, one main advantage is that there are no
complex mechanisms, as a result then maintain cost electric bikes is much lower in comparison
to regular vehicles.

Phase 1 : Diagnosis Phase

1.1 Background of the project

India’s automobile industry is the sixth largest in the world and accounts for 22% of the
country’s total manufacturing output. In the last decade, India has been growing at a faster rate
on the motorization curve. As a result, urban traffic congestion and the air quality gets affected in
the all-major metropolitan cities and town. In India, the transport sector alone contributed around
18% in terms of carbon emission. Indian government is trying to move to alternative solutions to
overcome the crises. Several automotive companies are slowly venturing into the EV space and
are expanding their portfolio. Promoting Electric vehicles through innovative ways can help
reduce fossil fuel dependence and pollution, and prove to be beneficial for both consumer and
the nation in the long run.

Electric vehicles can have a significant impact on the reduction of greenhouse and pollutant gas
emission associate to the transportation sector. The awareness about new products among the
consumer has an impact on their behavior in the long term. The consumer with knowledge about
product develop an attitude towards specific products. In this paper the awareness about
environmental-friendly cars among automobile involvement consumer is discussed. A green
vehicle is road motor vehicle that products less harmful impact to the environment than
comparable conventional internal engine vehicles running on gasoline certain alternatives fuels.

17
1.2 Problem identification
Prior research projects and studies focused mostly on brand recognition and consumer
awareness. In the service industry, there have only been a few studies regarding with increasing
in air pollution in urban areas and scarcity of fuels electric bikes is in great demand but it is not
used by most of the people because of lack of awareness. Thus the purpose of the study is to
study the awareness level of consumer towards e-bike and also the perception of the users. Thus
by creating awareness we can enhance the sales of electric bikes.
1. Lack of infrastructure
2. Very less awareness about e bikes
3. Lack of standardization problem
4. Less of charging station
5. Wiring and connection problem
6. Major problem of range anxiety
7. Also face the battery life problem

1.3 Analyze the problem

Problem 1: Lack of infrastructure is among the most pressing issue among people thinking to
opt for electric vehicles. Poor infra doesn’t only include a lack of charging station but also the
lack of proper charging set up in their home. Charging a heavier electric bike could be a major
problem for any electric bike owner if he lacks proper setup near their place.

Problem 2 : Electric bike is necessary along with the awareness and importance to the students
of coming generations. Because the electric bike spare part and servicing industry is another
essential part of the growth of e bike. The major problem of very less people are not aware about
electric bike. Most of the people are using in commercial vehicle. The do not know about electric
bike.

Problem 3 : Many electric bike user complained about facing trouble for charging their vehicle
in different electric vehicle making company’s charging station which can impact the growth of
the electric bike industry. The lack of standardization reduce the electric bikes adoption rate in
society based communities.

Problem 4 : Less of charging station is the biggest problem ever in electric bike. The Indian
electric bike industry is damaging the present and future of the market. Every electric bike has its
own different charging port, which affects the charging station infrastructure because no specific
charging station can be built that can charge all types of electric bike.

Problem 6 : Connected to the charging infrastructure is the range anxiety problem. Electric bike
owners are often worried about the electric bike capacity to each from point to point. This is a
major problem that can only be solved with an improvement or by improving the charging
infrastructure & lowering charging times.

18
Problem 7 : You might have left your e-bike battery charging. But upon switching on your bike,
it doesn’t start. The problem could be that your charger is damaged. You can test whether it’s
working using a multimeter. The test results must be higher than the actual battery voltage, but
the battery is defective if it appears to be lower.

1.4 Objective of the study

• To test consumer awareness about e-bike.
• To find out the reason why consumer prefers to electric bike
• To spread awareness about e-vehicles.
• To research the factors driving customer to buy electric bike.
• To know the users perception about electric bikes.
• To understand the varies government e-transportation initiative in India.

1.5 Project Schedule

Project is mainly contains several activities like :
- Problem identification
- Analyzing the problem
- Find out best solution
- Implementation
- Implementation work
Now, fist activity is problem Identification. For that observation and brain storming was used. So
project starts for 15 October, so for problem Identification 15-20 days were spared. Solution is
outcome or derived after second stage. Solution is kind of decision making process. It takes lots
of concentration and efforts. With the help of guide, final solution were derived. It takes at least
10 days.

Phase 2 : Designing phase

2.1 Methodology adopted for data collection

Research definition : Research is defined as careful consideration of study regarding a particular

concern or problem using scientific methods. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert
Babbie, ’’research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict, and control the
observation phenomenon. It involves Inductive and deductive methods.’’
Inductive research method analyze an observed event, while deductive method verify the
observed event. Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the problem. It is
necessary for the researcher to know not only the research methods but also methodology.
Researcher also need to understand the assumption underlying various techniques and they need
to know the criteria by which can they decide that certain techniques and procedures will be
applicable to certain problems and other will not. All this means that it is necessary for the
researcher to design his methodology for his problem as the same may differ from problem to
problem.

Methods of data collection : It is evident that data alone are insufficient for addressing any real-
world issues; hence, it is vital to gather proper data. The types of data that are now accessible
depend on the information’s source : Primary data and secondary data

There are mainly two types of data collection method in methodology

1. Primary data collection method
2. Secondary data collection method

1.Primary data collection method : The term Primary data refers to information that has just
been gathered. A questionnaire was used for the initial data collection, and it was successful in
gathering the necessary detail on the preference of the clients.

Quantitative method : Qualitative research is research method that is used to generated numeric
data and facts, employing statistical, logical and mathematical technique.
Methods : Structured techniques such as surveys, Questionnaire and observations etc...

Qualitative method : Qualitative research is a method of inquiry that develops understanding on

human and social science, to find out the way people think and feel.
Methods : Non-structure techniques like in depth interviews, group discussion etc.…

20
Sources of primary data :
Surveys,
Observation,
Interviews,
Questionnaires,
Experiments,
Focus groups

Secondary data collection method : The secondary data collection method on the other hand
are those which have already been collected by someone else and which have already been
passed through the statistical process.

Sources of secondary data :

Books,
Journals,
Articles,
Web pages,
Blogs

2.2 Fact finding and in-depth investigation

In the past years they become technically more mature, battery life improved and herewith
action. Furthermore good looking models was designed and e-bike are no longer for old lazy
people, they became modern transportation. Now days also sporty and environment conscious
people choose for e-bike as an alternative for polluting and stay away from traffic jam.

Fact finding the act or process of determining the fact often the issue involved in a case situation,
or relationship. So, in this project we find out many facts as challenges throughout our
observation and in depth study about the particular problem face by company in their training
and development policy.

• The material used in manufacturing the e-bikes is good. And it can take a load of daily
commutes. As they depend upon the renewable source of energy and you might doubt
when it comes to its build quality. The development of an electric motorcycle is driving
engineers and scientists to try new lightweight materials and aerodynamic designs. This
has been done with premium success Electric motorcycles are easy to handle and control
on the roads because they are far lighter than their gas-powered counterparts

• The noticeable distinction between e scooters and their gas equivalents is the
comparative silence of electric motorcycles. All electric motorcycles are silent and may
feel like you are gliding through the traffic.

21
• E-bikes are easy to use, which opens up the world of cycling to novice cyclists, people
who may not be physically able to ride on longer rides any longer, and those who simply
just don't enjoy the effort needed to ride a bike . Electric bikes allow everyone to cycle at
the same pace. With pedal assist, hills and riding into the wind require no additional
effort. Because e-bikes are less influenced by the weather, you'll show up to work less
sweaty and winded,
• You'll be able to avoid traffic and busy parking lots, as e-bikes share some of the benefits
of standard bicycles. E-bikes can be parked alongside traditional bikes, and foldable e-
bikes can be collapsed down and brought into the office. Electric bikes help you avoid
traffic by using bike lanes and bike paths, and because they have a maximum assisted
speed of 20 miles per hour, you'll go faster and travel farther in less time than a
traditional bike.
• Because e-bikes come with pedal assist you'll experience less stress on your joints,
compared to traditional bicycles. Your knees hips, and ankles will thank your Balancing
and stabilizing an e-bike upright will help build your core strength. By lising pedal
assist, your cardiovascular health can be improved by keeping your heart rate at a safe
level. The exact health benefits will vary depending on the amount of pedal assist used,
but studies have found that the ease of riding e-bikes has resulted in owners riding more
exercise and more health benefits
• E-bikes can help you get from place to place quickly and easily, which is a great
alternative to driving in a car. Electric bikes are energy efficient and reduce carbon
emissions as they run on electricity from rechargeable batteries. Because they don't
require refueling, e-bikes are less expensive to operate, and maintenance tends to be less
than your standard car maintenance.
• E bike can be used for many different reasons. From the practical to the healthy ones,
people use E bikes because they have different great benefits. The popular use of the E
bike comes down to commuting people spend quite some time commuting to and from
work, on average around 26 minutes each day. With the E bike, this time shortens,
especially if you take into consideration the pedal-assisted models, which make the trip
much easier. exercise E bike is a great option for moderate exercise. The electronic
motor helps overcome different terrain and obstacles, but it can also be used as a
traditional bike
• We have all seen it in sci-fi movies. Sleek and sexy vehicles, none of which look old,
bulky or have jets of smoke coming out the back, un-futuristic transportation is no longer
being made. The electric bike is on its way to being up there with its smart counterparts.
Considering that this invention will improve continuously over time, what we have now
might be the prototype of this promising transport. Many countries in Southeast Asia
took the lead in using E-bikes as sustainable mode of transportation, and with the
continuous rise of urban air pollution, there is a big future for E-bikes.

22
2.3 SOURCES AND TOOLS OF DATA COLLECTION
SOURCES OF DATA

Data is very impotent for the any research work or any project work. Without data
anyone can't justify the project work or report. It is "life blood of research" any research can't
complete without collection and analysis of the data.

PRIMARY DATA

SECONDARY DATA

In our project we used primary and secondary data source, in our project we used
secondary data for collecting the information about the company through company website and
for the data analysis purpose we used primary data source via questionnaire, direct

38
Phase 3 : Implementation phase

3.1 Identifying alternative course of action

• The hydrogen vehicle: an alternative for cleaner driving

The hydrogen vehicle is often compared to the electric vehicle. Both types of vehicles do not
have an internal combustion engine and run on electricity. However, their energy source is not
the same. The major difference between the hydrogen vehicle and the electric vehicle is that the
hydrogen vehicle produces the electricity it needs. It does not use energy supplied by an
integrated battery.

More concretely, to operate, hydrogen vehicles draw their energy from a fuel cell powered by
this gas. This hydrogen is stored in a tank (located in the vehicle) and then fed into the fuel cell,
which will provide electricity to drive the vehicle, without generating toxic exhaust emissions.
The only by-product of the whole process is water and heat, both of which are natural resources.

• Technological innovation
The need for an alternative to has sparked technological innovation, with companies launching
themselves into the cause by boosting the offer available to support e-bikers. This is evident in
an insurgence in smartphone apps enabling cyclists to plan their roots, find charging spots and
even dodge traffic.

• The natural gas vehicle: a responsible way to travel

A vehicle is considered clean when it produces a low amount of polluting emissions. This is
generally the case for vehicles that use fuels other than gasoline or diesel. The natural gas
vehicle (NGV) thus appears as an ecological and alternative mode of travel to the electric
vehicle. As its name indicates, the NGV runs on natural gas, which is the same gas you use every
day to heat your home.

• Biodiesel
This is a renewable form of diesel. It is also made from natural products such as: vegetable oil,
cooking oil or animal fats. It has many advantages from an environmental point of view.
Renewable and biodegradable, it allows a considerable reduction of greenhouse gases. Indeed,
compared to diesel, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% during its life cycle.
However, we must keep in mind that these biofuels are used as a complement to conventional
fuels such as gasoline for example. To conclude, we can say that the electric vehicle is not the
only way to have an ecological driving.

39
• Bioethanol

Bioethanol is derived from starches or sugar, for example corn or sugar cane, by fermentation
and distillation. A blend of 5% bioethanol with 95% petrol can be used in all petrol engines and
reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 3.5%. Petrol engines can be modified to run on up to 85%
bioethanol. Car manufacturers are beginning to produce vehicles that can run on all blends up to
85% and the availability of bioethanol in the UK looks set to increase. In Brazil 60% of new cars
sold are 100% ethanol and it is the world's largest producer of bioethanol, with 45% of all fuel
used in cars there being bioethanol.

• Bike sharing services

Bike share services are becoming increasingly popular in cities across the globe as a sustainable
and efficient way to get around. While there are many different types of bike share systems, they
all typically allow users to rent bikes from a network of docking stations and return them to any
station in the system. There are a number of advantages to using bike share services.

First, they can help reduce traffic congestion and pollution in urban areas. Second, they provide
an affordable and convenient transportation option for people who don't own a car or who want
to avoid public transportation during peak hours. Finally, bike share programs encourage people
to be more active and can help improve public health.

some of the most popular options:

Traditional bicycles: Of course, the most obvious alternative to an electric bike is a regular
bicycle. Bicycles have been around for centuries, and for good reason— they're relatively simple
to use and maintain, and can be quite efficient (especially if you have strong legs!). On the
downside, traditional bicycles can be challenging to ride up hills or long distances, and they can
be a bit tricky to pedal if you're wearing skirts or dresses.

40
3.2 Determine the solution proposed
Public Awareness about electric bike : While electric bikes are nothing new, the industry as
compare to gas powered vehicles still lack a well informed and broadly educated public
awareness. This factor relates to all the other, because as long as the consumer lacks information
or receives misinformation, it will remail difficult to encourage electric vehicle adoption. These
assumption is that awareness will grow with popularity, but it is crucial that the electric bike
industry takes steps to build a well-informed consumer base.

Charging speed : The speed at which a driver can charge up their bike is another topic brought
up often by adopters. Will both the bike and charging station play a role, experts are optimistic
that the time it takes to charge will continue to push towards fueling up an electric bike. Of
course early adopters are okey with charging overnight or waiting a little longer for a fast fact
charge on a trip, but for full scale adoption, either public perception of charge speed or actual
time to charge will have to continue to charge.

Cost and comparison : at the end of the day every buyer cares about the cost of their new bike.
A recent study showed would purchase is primary concern. This is one of those aspects of
electric bike adoption that has additional, external factors playing a role. While the cost of
producing electric bike expected to drop, until manufacturers believed electric bike will sell at
comparable rates to bikes. The upfront cost will likely remain higher. And through drivers are
remember that operating cost should be lower maintenance. Even with incentive can be out of
some consumer price range.

Changing infrastructure : Paired with incentive manufacturers receive to produce electric bike
come the incentives that business and other location receive to develop charging station. As
charging station become more prevalent, the hope is that would be electric bike cases to worry
where they will top up their vehicle. Companies electric bike connect continue to drive the
industry forward with charging solution.

Green Energy : Early adopters of electric have often been those located in cleaner energy areas.
As the industry become more widespread, the expectation is that electric bike will be net-positive
for environment by a wide margin. The center for sustainable energy emphasizes that electric
bike are even more green in areas where clean energy already reigns. So as society continues to
switch to renewable sources of energy. Electric bikes should increasingly benefits the earth,
which will hopefully encourage more electric bike consumption.

Range : time and time again e-bike range crops up as the dominating consideration that drivers
make before choosing an electric bikes. And while electric bike engineers are consistently
improving batteries and the ability to travel farther on a charge, until electric bike rang
consistently matches or outperform internal combination engine vehicle, some consumer will to
switch.

41
3.3 Methodology adopted for solution implementation

Improvement in the charging process : we focus on the charging process, a key aspect
regarding battery vehicles, and it also crucial in the field of electric bikes, as it is highly
important to facilitate users charging process, enabling electric bike to longer distance. Another
aspects that can the charging process is applying intelligent algorithms to optimize the charges,
either reducing the cost, or improving the use of the electric infrastructure. Currently, the
charging process usually starts just in the movement in which the vehicle is connected to the
charging point.

Power control and energy management : the energy management is a critical factors for
electric bike. The battery management system (BMS) is a key system that is designed to manage
and control the battery unit in this kind of vehicle. More specifically, BMS is responsible for
managing the energy that provide by the batteries with the aim of guaranteeing their safety and
reliability.

Wireless charging system : In addition to the issues presented before, environment condition
can cause discomfort for users when they connect an electric bike manually at the charging
station. Moreover failure of power cords and connectors can cause safety issues. Wireless
charging system arise as a solution for the above problems, the main advantage of wireless
charging system is providing the opportunity for making fast and frequent charges will the
electric bike. The WCS is proven technology that provides as exciting alternative charging
system, which has been used in several projects.

Battery station : A battery station is an electric bike where customers can the discharge battery
with a charged one. It has begun to be adopted, especially public transportation. The requires a
high stock of batteries to supply its customers. Many works assume that the batteries are owned
by the battery station. The main benefit of battery station for customer is that they can
immediately have a charged at fast charging levels. The main advantage of that the third party
could own the batteries and be responsible for replacing them with fully charged ones.

Eco charge and Sustainability : Electric bike have appeared as a model of sustainability and
respect to the environment, due to the fact they do not harmful substances. Such sustainability is
not only limited to the usage of hybrid or electric bike, but also their design, the prime material
used in the manufacturing of these bikes, and the energy footprint during its use as the
subsequent recycling of the their components influencing the circles of sustainability.

42
3.4 Project outputs/key deliverables
Competition : With everyone adapting the mindset, everyone who has manufacture the e-bikes.
This business moreover, the industry is already saturated with a lot of companies. It can get
difficult to actually make and stand out from the tough competition. If you are someone who is
passionate about opening a e-bike company then you should probably define what your unique
aspect is and promote.

Dealing with Customers : You might be the best dealing with customer is indeed a challenge.
There are always people who have expectations and who would simply throw all their anger on
you. However, if you wish to be successful and get repeat orders as well as, you must maintain
your calm while taking to such customers. Take each situation as an opportunity to learn and
continue improving your services.

Lack of service option : Most of us at same point in time would have faced a vehicle
breakdown. And to the large availability of skilled/unskilled auto service technicians, the
problem is usually taken care of. However, with electric vehicle this system becomes redundant
as there is a need for retraining repair professionals or finding newly trained workers.

Battery production : Reducing the cost of battery production is a critical step to the success of
electric bike. Integrated digital solution can help battery producers achieve cost-effective
batteries by connecting battery design and simulation solution.

Consumer protection : While the technology is still relatively new and is being accepted more
day by day, the repair and maintenance network is still compare to other bikes. The lack of
people skilled in electric bike maintenance is one of the major cause of the challenge.

Manufacturing challenge : There are challenges with regard to the availability and affordability
of material used in manufacturing these vehicles. The current battery and no further changes in
technology in power manufacturing in the two wheeler. Further, many of the resources like
copper, lithium, permanent magnets and related material and components, are heavily imported
by India with import cost increasing over the years.

43
3.5 Tangible and intangible benefits delivered to the
organization
Government Incentive : In many countries, government offer incentive to encourage business
to adopt electric bike. These can included tax breaks, new electric bike purchase subsidies, and
charging infrastructure access. Some government may also provide grants to install a charging
station at your business premises. Additionally, various local authorities are offering free parking
spaces or preferential rates for electric bikes to help make them attractive.

Improving brand image : Electric bikes can help business develop a more responsible image in
customers eyes. Companies can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and
environmental protection by choosing electric bikes. This can help business stand out from the
competition and attract more customers, increasing sales and profits. Additionally, companies
may benefit from government incentive for driving electric bikes.

Investment Opportunities : Finally, business can take advantage of investment opportunities

related to electric bikes, Government worldwide are investing heavily in electric bike technology
and infrastructure, creating opportunity for business to capitalize on the trend. Companies may
be able to invest in electric bike manufacturers or related companies or even develop their
electric bike projects.

Workplace charging scheme : While many business owners are sold the concept of owing an e-
bike, the reality of needing to charge it can be sticking point. To combat this and encourage
people to switch to electric vehicles, they introduced two schemes. These are the electric vehicle
home charge scheme, which offers up to 75% of the cost of installing an electric vehicle
charging point in your home, and the workplace charging scheme which provides vouchers
towards the cost of buying and installing charge point at your business premises.

Financial savings : One real, tangible benefit of an electric vehicle for any business their
ongoing running costs. These costs are significantly lower than those incurred by petrol vehicles.
Many organization will require a competitive business case to purchase electric or commercial
vehicle if they haven`t before, and the financial savings during both purchase are one of the most
impressive electric bike benefits for business.

The technology behind electric vehicles continue to evolve and developed rapidly buy at the time
of initial purchase cost of these bikes are often still considerably more expensive than their petrol
equivalents. However, if the upfront investment can be made, these costs can be offset by the
various government incentive for electric bikes as mentioned above.

44
3.6 Future recommendations

Create customer connections : With smart e-bike charging that lets drivers interact with station
online or in a mobile app, retailers can create virtual connections to drivers who use their
stations. This just requires drives to submit a simple connection request in the app allows retail
organizations to learn more about who using their stations and when giving them new insight
into their customers.

Electric vehicle as way forward : Electric vehicles will contribute to improving the overall
energy security situation as the country imports crude oil requirements. The push for electric
vehicle is also expected to play an important role in the local electric bike manufacturing
industry for job creation. Additionally, through several grid support services, electric bikes are
expected to strengthen the grid and help accommodate higher renewable energy penetration
while maintaining secure and stable grid operation.

Opportunities for battery manufacturing : With recent technology disruptions, battery

storage has great opportunity in promoting sustainable development in the country, considering
government initiative to promote e-mobility and renewable power. With rising level of per
capital income. This makes manufacturing of advanced batteries one of the largest economic
opportunity of the 21st century.

Charging infrastructure : An charging infrastructure draws power from local electricity supply
can be set up at private residences, public utilities. The ministry of power has prescribes at least
one charging station to be present in a grid of 3 km and every 25 kms on both sides of the
highways.

Increasing Research and Development in electric vehicles : The Indian market needs
encouragement for technologies that are suited for India from both strategic and economic
standpoint. Since investment in local research and development is necessary to bring prices
down, it makes sense to local universities and existing Industrial hubs. India should work with
many countries electric vehicle development.

Origin and Increasing Scope : The push for electric vehicle is driven by the global climate
agenda to reduce carbon emissions in order to limit global warming. The global electric mobility
revolution is today defined by the rapid growth in electric vehicle.
