Context and Rationale

Pursuant to the “Kindergarten Education Act of 2012” (Republic Act No. 10157) and

the K to 12 on the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 20113 (Republic Act No. 10533),

Kindergarten education provides equal opportunities for all children to accessible, mandatory

and compulsory Kindergarten education that effectively promotes physical, social, cognitive and

emotional skills stimulations and values formation offered to all five (5) year old Filipino children

to sufficiently prepare them for Grade One. “Kindergarten Education is vital to the development

of the Filipino child for it is the period when the young minds absorptive capacity is at its

sharpest”. It also aims to make education responsive to the needs, circumstances and diversity

of learners, school and communities using developmentally appropriate and culturally-sensitive

practices (DAP) which immerses the learners in meaningful experiences thru engaging play

based, and child centered activities. The mother tongue of the learner shall be the primary

medium of teaching and learning.

The Department of Education (DepEd) maintains its confidence in the benefits of holding

in-person classes to promote academic development and the overall mental health and

wellbeing of our learners. Several published studies point to the undisputable fact that in-person

classes remain the best option for basic education.

This school year 2022-2023 Department of Education released DepEd Order (DO) 034

Series of 2022, all enrolled learners will require to attend face-to-face classes. This is

mandatory, they are all required to go to school. Face-to face learning is an instructional method

where course content and learning material are taught in person to a group of learners. This
4

allows for a live interaction between a learner and a teacher. It is the most traditional type of

learning instruction. It is really an effective way to learn knowledge and skills because it often

combines different ways of learning including writing, reading, discussions, presentations,

projects and group work.

Kindergarten of San Luis-Condes Elementary School adopted modular method of

learning due to pandemic of Covid 19, SY 2020-2021 to SY 2021-2022.This school year 2022-

2023 Kindergarten learners have not experience face to face classes during their Day Care

days. The teacher- adviser has two school assignments San Luis-Condes Elementary School

and Batonan Sur Primary School within Culasi District. Teaching Kindergarten learners at San

Luis-Condes Elementary School are taught whole day from Monday to Wednesday 7:30-10:30

in the morning and 1:00 – 4:00 in the afternoon and Batonan Sur Primary School are taught

from Thursday to Friday 7:30-10:30 in the morning and 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon. With this

schedule, both the teacher and the learners feel exhausted because some of the Kindergarten

learners eat their lunch in school and the teacher need to eat her lunch too. Most of the time the

teacher attends the personal needs of the learners even after class hours.

The evaluation outcomes need to be undertaken at every phase of the implementation.

That is why this action research is a way of trying to identify the challenges of implementing a

full day face to face classes among Kindergarten learners of San Luis-Condes Elementary

School.

This action research therefore will be conducted to identify the challenges of full day face

to face class among Kindergarten learners of San Luis-Condes Elementary School, hence , this

study.

Action Research Questions

The action research will find out the challenges of full day face to face classes among

Kindergarten learners of San Luis-Condes Elementary School SY 2022-2023.

Specifically, this study will seek answers to the following questions:

1. What are the challenges of implementing a full day face to face classes among Kindergarten

learners?

2.What action should be undertaken to address the challenges by Kindergarten learners in

implementing a full day face to face classes?

Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

To address the challenges in implementing full day face-to-face classes among

Kindergarten learners, the following strategies should be applied and implemented:

1. Kindergarten learners will be taught only in half day sessions not whole day.

2. Use of differentiated instructions to suit the different mental level of Kindergarten learners.

3. Playing area with apparatuses should also be given priority to let them enjoy.

4. Kindergarten learners should use manipulative toys to make the lesson interesting.

5.Feeding program must be given to all Kindergarten learners to sustain their stomach ability

and ready for another learning activity.

6

6.Using of television make learners alive while singing together with their favorite action songs

and rhymes, watching the stories and doing dances.

7. Give opportunity to do outdoor activity or games to arouse their physical skills.

Action Research Methods

This study will make use of descriptive method of research to find out the challenges in

implementing a full day face to face class among Kindergarten learners of San Luis-Condes

Elementary School.

Participants and /or Other Sources of Data and Information

The participants of this study will be 23 Kindergarten learners who is officially enrolled

during the school year 2022-2023.
