Award-winning, dedicated, creative educator with 31 years of experience teaching grades 4-6, and 2 years as a math
specialist, with a proven track record of helping students make academic gains. Flexibly employs a broad array of
strategies and approaches to engage and support diverse learners, including ELLs, in a variety of settings and models.

● Provided Sheltered English Immersion instruction for Multilingual learners at Level 1 and Level 2 English
proficiency, using ESL best practices to provide comprehensible input for grade level content standards and build
English language proficiency in a safe, culturally responsive, nurturing learning community
● Warmly welcomed and supported 6 newcomers (speaking 5 different home languages and no English) to their
first U.S. schooling, over the course of the year
● Published class books employing the Language Experience Approach as a vehicle to build literacy skills (in all
four language domains), grade level science content knowledge and understanding of nonfiction text features
● Administered and analyzed informal and formal assessments to identify needs and strengths, inform flexible small
group and whole group instruction, progress monitor and make instructional adjustments
● Incorporated Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, Lively Letters phonics, Fry Sight Words and Phrases, decodable
texts and Lexia Core 5 blended learning to teach foundational literacy skills to help 3 nonreaders and S.L.I.F.E.

MCAS above the state average and over 2 ½ times that of their city wide peers
● As founding 6th grade teacher, crafted the curriculum to align to Common Core and MA state frameworks, utilizing
the Singapore Math approach with Math in Focus, Engage NY, and teacher created materials
● Fostered an engaging, safe, and positive learning environment incorporating daily “crew” meetings and SEL
● Collaborated to develop the evolving Social Studies curriculum, based on the Expeditionary Learning (EL) model,
and led project based learning experiences in conjunction with the New Bedford Parks Department to create a
trail map, informational kiosks, and a website featuring plants and animals in one of our city parks
● Organized Expedition Nights, and served on the Instructional Leadership Team, as the MS Expedition Dept. Chair
● Taught at both campuses when the new campus was not able to fill the 6th grade math position in time
● Supported three state licensure candidates as their Supervising Practitioner, managed and coached four
colleagues, and informally mentored others, gaining the nickname “Mama Tina”
● Integrated various technology tools to create a robust and participatory remote learning experience, including the
use of Google Classroom, Nearpod, Edulastic, EdPuzzle, Khan Academy, Assistments, video, as well as
reference resources on our bilingual class website and in our virtual classroom
