 Cerebrum: is the largest part of the brain and is composed of right and left hemispheres. It performs higher
functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing, as well as speech, reasoning, emotions, learning, and fine
control of movement. Cerebellum: is located under the cerebrum.
 The skull (also known as cranium) consists of 22 bones which can be subdivided into 8 cranial bones and
14 facial bones. The main function of the bones of the skull along with the surrounded meninges, is to provide
protection and structure.
 Midbrain functions involve movement of the body and head, as it provides passage for downward pathways for
the cerebral cortex. It is a channel for the spinal cord transmitting stimuli (sensory) from the head and body to
the direct brain.
 The forebrain is responsible for voluntary actions, thinking, and processing. The forebrain interprets sensory
input and makes decisions. The largest part of the brain is the cerebrum which makes up 2/3 of the brain matter.
The cerebrum is made of White matter and gray matter.
 The hypothalamus helps manage your body temperature, hunger and thirst, mood, sex drive, blood pressure
and sleep.
 It regulates growth, metabolism, and reproduction through the hormones that it produces. The production of
these hormones is either stimulated or inhibited by chemical messages sent from the hypothalamus to the
pituitary.
 The pons is a broad horseshoe-shaped mass of transverse nerve fibres that connect the medulla with the
cerebellum. It is also the point of origin or termination for four of the cranial nerves that transfer sensory
information and motor impulses to and from the facial region and the brain.
