The thesis defense is the final hurdle to overcome before you may successfully complete your

thesis. It is an opportunity to present your in-depth knowledge and your expertise on the subject
of your research thesis to other academic professionals so they can evaluate the quality of your
academic writing. Thus, it was an honor for me for participating our Midterm Defense that was
held up well.
Our group planned to have sleepover the day before the defense for the last preparation.
Reviewing and organizing of all our research papers and evidences followed by a group
discussion. Also, our research adviser set our consultation via Google Meet at exactly 8:30 p.m.
Our papers and PowerPoint files were once more scrutinized by him. I was assigned to our
PowerPoint presentation, since Sir Emil advised for just a simple one and only include key
points. He also provides us a series of questions and answers that was commonly asked during
defense. What we should anticipate, do, and avoid doing when defending. And talked to us about
the thesis defense process. After that, we returned to our assigned tasks before our rehearsal.
On the 24th day of April, the day of our pre-proposal defense at the Old AVR in our school.
Since we are the third group, we decided to practice our presentation again. And then we were
informed that there had been an adjustment of time for the defense because of some reason. We
spend our waiting hours reviewing our papers again, memorizing our parts in presentation, and
answering some possible questions. They gave us enough time to be ready. After lunch, when the
defense started. Our research panels are. The first group spent more than an hour, as did the
second group. While waiting, I read the article “The Jeepney Phase-out Explained” by Roces
(2023) for additional information.
At exactly 5 p.m., we started our presentation. They gave us 15 minutes to present. Since, we
also considered the possible questions during our preparation, it is very helpful when we proceed
to questions and answers. I’m glad that the articles I had read help me to defend my answer.
While asking, our panels are also providing their suggestions in every chapter of our research
paper. At the end, we successfully defended our research study. After that, we checked the
corrections in our paper and organize our notes for our revisions. Our research teacher
congratulated us for the good defense. She also checked our papers and advised us for doing the
revisions.
Generally, though a thesis defense is a frightening and intimidating experience, it is also
an incredible achievement.
