Abstract

This research aims to determine the Impact of Cadet

Officer Qualifying Course and Citizenship Advancement
Training Programs to the Academic Performance of the
Students. More specifically to describe the thoughts of
the respondents about this topic and to determine the
relationship between the training and the academic
performance.

There is no direct relationship between the programs

and the academic performance of the students. However, it
is up to the students what is their most priorities if
its either their studies or their training.

Cadet Officer Qualifying Course and Citizenship

Advancement Training program focus on putting in Values
Education and reflecting on each and everyone’s
characters and discipline. However, with so much
responsibilities it would be a bit harder for the
students to focus only on their studies.

The objective is to strengthen the patriotism among

Filipino youth and enlighten their minds about the
sacrifices of our heroes and to teach them to protect our
sovereignty.

Research Methodology

This chapter deals with the research

design, study locale. Overall it gives the
general pattern for gathering and processing
research data.

Research Design

The researchers use a descriptive method.

Descriptive method of research is used to
describe the characteristics of the population
or phenomenon that is being studied. This
addressed the question the “what” of the
research subject rather than the “why” of the
research subject. The main idea behind using
this type of research is to better define, as
well as explain, or validate some sort of
hypothesis or objective, an opinion, attitude,
or behaviour held by a group of people on a
given subject. The descriptive is used for
frequencies, averages and other statistical
calculations. Often the best approach, prior to
writing descriptive research, it to conduct a
survey investigation. The researchers provide a
questionnaire type of descriptive research so
that the respondents don’t have a hard time
answering the questions required to have the
information needed by the researchers regarding
the impact of Cadet Officer Qualifying Course
and Citizenship Advancement Training Program in
Academic Performance of the students

Research Locale

The researchers conducted their study

regarding the impact of Cadet Officer Qualifying
Course and Citizenship Advancement Training
Program in Academic Performance of the students
at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College of
Guimba, Incorporated. [OLSHCO] which is located
at the Afan Salvador St., St. John District,
Guimba, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. OLSHCO is a
well-known Catholic School in its municipality
because of its high quality in education that
they offer. Being one of the top school in its
municipality many students are engaged in
studying in the said school.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents involved are the grade 9 and

grade 10 students of the Our Lady of the Sacred
Heart College of Guimba, Incorporated. Enrolled
in the academic year 2018-2019. The researchers
choose and want to know if the training in Cadet
Officer Qualifying Course (COQC) and Citizenship
Advancement Training (CAT) program affects in
the academic performance of the students and
some benefits that can get from it.

The respondents are picked randomly by the

research as sources of inputs for this study,
using the random sampling.

Data Gathering
This study centered on the “Impact of Cadet
Officer Qualifying Course and Citizenship
Advancement Training Program in Academic
Performance of the students” and the demographic
profile of the respondents which includes the
age, sex and the average grade of the
respondents. Furthermore, if the joining and
partaking in the training of Cadet Officer
Qualifying Course (COQC) and Citizenship
Advancement Training (CAT) program has an effect
in the academic performance and studies of the
respondents. In gathering the data, the
researchers upon the approval of the research
adviser that allow them to disseminate and
administer the survey-questionnaire to the
Junior High School students of the Our Lady of
the Sacred Heart College of Guimba, Inc.
Specifically the grade 9 and grade 10 students.

The survey was conducted by the group. The

researchers spent 1 day in disseminating and
administering the survey period. After answering
the survey by the respondents, the survey
questionnaires must be completed and returned to
the researchers with the exact numbers of
questionnaires given to them. After collecting
all of the data and information regarding the
subject in their research proposal, the
codification and numbering of the data was done
and the data was entered in the computer for the
purpose of data analysis.

Gathering Tools

The date is served through quantitative

method where survey-questionnaire are served as
the the instrument in getting the data. The
researchers choose survey-questionnaire because
it can be targeted to groups and managed in
various ways. It contains the two parts; one for
the demographic profile of the respondent sand
one for the Likert scale format.

QUESTIONNAIRE

The instrument includes:

PART I: The first part provides the

demographic profile of the respondents which
include: age and the sex.

PART II: The written test which is

constructed to know the impact of Cadet Officer
Qualifying Course and Citizenship Advancement
Training Program in Academic Performance of the
students.

The questionnaire and the sets of the tests

are drafted with the guidance of the adviser and
is based on some standardized tests, with
enhancement based on related studies reviewed.

Data Gathering Procedure

Prior to conducting the study, researchers

will conduct a survey to the grade 9 and 10
students in the school year 2018-2019 from the
Our Lady of The Sacred Heart College of Guimba
Inc. The researchers asked permission from the
students to do respondents of this research
study. The respondents will be given
questionnaire and the will write their answer on
the questionnaire itself.
Once the respondents are done answering the
questions, Their papers will be collected, and
the researchers will have their appreciation to
the respondents for cooperating. The result of
the collected papers will be the researchers’
basis for analysis, results, interpretation,
findings, conclusion, and recommendation of the
study.

Recommendation

The Following Recommendations were offered:

Students

- Students should be aware of their priorities and

their responsibilities if they want to join the Cadet
Officer Qualifying Course (COQC) or attend to
Citizenship Advancement Training (CAT) it would be up
to them if it would affect their studies because there
is no specific relation between training and academic
performance.

Teachers

- Teachers should continue to guide and keep the

students on track with their studies they also should
remind them that despite of the training they should
still have the drive and determination to perform well
in school.

Parents

- Parents should support their children on what

path they would want to be in. They must give their
children to support physically and emotionally.

School Administrator

- Must assess and evaluate the school existing

programs to improve materials of instructions.

Future Researchers

- Future researchers should conduct more studies in

other factors according to the Impact of Cadet Officer
Qualifying Course and Citizenship Advancement Training
to the academic performance of the students.

- Future researchers can also explore other factors

that may affect with the student’s academic
performance.

- Future researchers are recommended to enlarge the

number of respondents to know if it may lead to other
results.
