There
In English, existence is usually indicated . There is actually
an adverb of place, but the introductory there has no
adverbial sense. It is merely used to introduce the
sentence.
structure : there + to be

1.There are two people in the room. (More natural than


‘Two people are in the room’.)
2.There is a bridge over the river.

Note: Note that introductory there is not used in a sentence


if there is a definite subject.

John was at the party. (NOT There was John at the party.)

As soon as
As soon as is a conjunction and it’s used when something
happens immediately after some other event.
Structure : As soon as + 1st event + comma + 2nd
Event / 2nd event+ as soon as + 1st event
Note: Using future tense in 1st event is wrong.

1. He received the telegram. He started at once


> as soon as he received the telegram, he started.
> as soon as he received the telegram, he started.
2.As soon as I saw a snake, I ran away.

Was born
We use was/were born when we talk about when or where
someone or something started their life.
Structure: Subject + was born

I was born in 1988. Not: I am born in 1988. or I born in


1988.

Would Rather
We use “would rather” to describe a preference of one thing
compared to another thing. In Bengali, It means 'বরং'

Structure :
➤ Affirmative:
1. subject + “would rather” + base form + “than” + base
form (One Subject)
I’d rather walk than run.
2. subject + “would rather” + different subject + past simple
(two subject)
you would rather they stayed here.
➤ Negative:
1. subject + “would rather” + “not” + base form(one
subject)
I would rather not run.
2.  subject + “would rather” + different subject + negative
past simple form(two subject)
I would rather they didn’t stay here.

Had Better
'Had better' is a phrase counted as a 'semi-modal verb.'
'Had better' is used to give advice. It is mainly used in its
contracted form and to give warnings.
Structure: Had better + Base Form/ Had better not+V0
➤ Practice:
1.Shishir is so poor. He had better do some tuitions.
(Advice)
2. You had better stay away from me.(Warning)
3. Shaon had better not ruin tonight's plan.
