REGGAE INSTRUMENTATION ANALYSIS

The composition entitled “Reggae Instrumentation” is a reggae piece scored in the

key of G major. The form of this piece is call and response. The instruments
featured in this piece are the grand piano, electric bass, electric guitar, tuba,
acoustic bass, and the b flat trumpet. The grand piano was chosen because my
familiarity with the instrument and the others were chosen at random based on how
well they sound together with the piano or to my liking. The dynamics is
moderately soft, and tempo is at a moderate pace. The time signature is a 4/4 time.
The inspiration for writing this piece came from the familiarity to the reggae genre
and the love for it.
The beginning of the piece started with some chords played by the piano and the
electric bass. The tuba was then added to introduce the “reggae” part of the piece.
The piano, electric bass and guitar played a reggae rhythm. The B falt trumpet then
responded to this rhythm. This continued for 12 more bars, then played again
eliminating the electric bass and guitar. The piece ended with a C chord.
