Gender and Development Seminar on Gender Sensitivity and Use of Gender Fair Language, Anti-
Sexual Harassment, Anti Violence Against Women and Children, and Magna Carta for Women at La
Concepcion Beach Resort, Linangkayan, Naawan, Misamis Oriental.

II. Rationale

Teachers are the cornerstone of an education system and one of the strongest potential allies in
promoting gender equality both in the classroom and beyond.

For teachers to play these roles, they need training on how to actively promote gender equality in
their teaching practices. As role models and representatives, teachers need to be able to examine their

own gender biases, identify inequalities in the classroom, and develop strategies and responses to ensure
they provide an education that challenges and transforms such negative norms and attitudes.

III. Program Description


This Gender and Development Seminar cum Capacity Building of the teachers focused on Gender
Sensitivity and Use of Gender Fair Language through discussions and varied activities that will help
expand the gender perspective and skills of teaching and non-teaching personnel. This is a two-day
seminar held outside the school premises to provide proper venue for teachers to concentrate and
encourage active participation that promotes improvement of educational outcomes for all their students,
power relations between the sexes and many other aspects of the student’s lives.

Terminal Objective:
 Participate in discussion and different activities to understand the role gender plays
and to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for advancing gender equality in
their daily lives and work.

 To raise awareness of gender equality concerns by providing the participants with


basic facts, evidence, and arguments on various topics relating to gender (in) equality.
 To impart gender sensitivity and use of gender fair language training to teachers and
non-teaching personnel
 To equip the teachers with the concepts, skills and attitude to initiate measures to
avoid sexual harassment in the workplace
 To assist the school management in mainstreaming gender issues at the school level
