1.What is the scenario being presented in the comics? Explain your answer.

The scenario presented in the comic is a common household conversation while watching
television. Everyone who watches raw foreign shows share the same experience in the comic.
And like everyone else, we all have our preferences on what we want to watch or entertain
ourselves.

In the comic presented, a father is enjoying his time watching "The Ring" in Japanese version.
While he is watching , his children were having loud discussions over something making him
unable to hear the audio. The kids replied to their dad “its not like you cant hear it when youre
clearly just reading the subtitles. Despite having subtitles”. The father reasons out he cannot
"hear" the subtitles making the comic light-hearted and funny but also speaks lessons like
respect.

As a person who enjoys watching raw foreign shows, Id this is a subtle way of saying “Please
lower your voices”. I may not understand a thing from what their saying but I enjoy hearing the
music, the actors voices, the background audios , every auditory cues that builds up the
atmosphere and feeling. I like to hear them speak , I sometimes passively learn their language
just from listening to the audio while reading the subtitles. It’s a cute and relatable comic
everyone could relate to.

2 Why is watching raw (i.e., original) films and/or TV shows important in disseminating
popular culture?

We think watching raw foreign shows that are unfiltered and unlocalized version keeps the
source material and culture alive . It gives the audience a complete experience. From the speech
patterns, intonations, metaphors, mindset, and social implications of why people of that nation
live the way they do. It Keeps a show to its most original form whilst delivered to foreign
nations. Audiences are given insights into what it is to live in that country, cultural backgrounds,
and context may it be in different genres like the typical slice of life, romance, or comedy, to the
creative one like horror, supernatural, fantasy-history, etc.

This group is a big fan of foreign shows so the answers we have are all based from experience
and observation.
3.Are comics, as a medium for popular culture, effective in conveying information? Why or
why not?

Comics are very good tools for conveying information. Aside from the visuals and entertaining
stories, it helps the audience get the context of the culture and author. Entertainment shouldn't be
always fun in a dumb way (which is also cool and good way to de-stress) but it can also be
informative in a light and fun way. Studies from Cognition Today website by Aditya Shukla
(2020) say that having positive environment improves mood, senses and brain resources for
effective absorption of information.
