Communicable diseases and how we can prevent
communicable diseases and how to avoid
spreading diseases to another.

Communicable Disease is an infectious disease

that is transmissible from one person to another
through direct or indirect contact with an
infected individual. In other words, it is
contagious. Examples include Influenza,
Hepatitis, HIV, Ebola, Food-Borne Illnesses,
Measles, Zika, etc.

Measles is an acute viral

respiratory illness. It is
characterized by a prodrome
of fever (as high as 105°F)
and malaise, cough, coryza, and conjunctivitis -
the three “C”s -, a pathognomonic enanthema
(Koplik spots) followed by a maculopapular
rash.

Flu is a contagious

respiratory illness caused
by influenza viruses that
infect the nose, throat,
and sometimes the lungs.
It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times
can lead to death. The best way to prevent flu is
by getting a flu vaccine each year.
1.

contact with a contaminated

surface or object (Norwalk
virus), food (salmonella, E. coli),
blood (HIV, hepatitis B), or
water (cholera);

Tuberculosis
can be
transmitted
through the air.

Dengue fever, bites from

insects or animals capable
of transmitting the disease
(mosquito: malaria and
yellow fever; flea: plague)

Leptospirosis
(Lepto) is a serious
bacterial disease
that infects dogs,
humans and other
animals. Exposure occurs in the
environment from contaminated water,
food, soil, or vegetation. Lepto enters
through the tissue of the mouth or injured
skin. It is transmitted through an infected
animal’s urine and can be transmitted to
humans.

To ensure that your hands is clean, the DOH

have suggested the procedure of proper hand
washing. (See poster)
There are different ways how to maintain our
body healthy. These are the following:
1. Always wash hands with clean water and
soap.
2. If there is no water and soap, you can use
hand sanitizer.
3. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough
and sneeze.
