3. List the devices required to set up a wireless LAN. Discuss WLAN with a
diagram.

The key hardware components of a wireless computer network include

 Adapters
 Routers
 Access points
 Antennas
 Repeaters

A Wireless network is a type of the computer network that uses the wireless connections for
connecting network nodes for data transfer. The wireless networks are very useful, inexpensive,
popular and widely used. They are easy setup and do not require the cables installation.
A wireless local area network (WLAN) links two or more devices using some wireless distribution
method and usually providing a connection through an access point to the wider Internet. This
gives users the ability to move around within a local coverage area and still be connected to the
network. Most modern WLANs are based on IEEE 802.11 standards, marketed under the Wi-Fi
brand name. WLAN uses access points and routers to make a connection between devices. Wi-Fi
is an example of WLAN where devices are connected wirelessly within a limited range. WLAN is
made within home, office building, computer laboratory, school building or any college campus.
For using Wi-Fi, users need to enter a password for making a connection to the internet. Wi-Fi
connection is made either by using mobile hotspots or by using a wireless modem or wireless
router.

4. Visit the website of Nepal Telecom and discuss about their internet services to the
clients.

From the website of Nepal Telecom, we found out about different internet services.
The wireless internet services provided by NTC are:
 4G LTE Network

4G or LTE stands for a mobile communications standard intended to replace 3G, allowing
wireless Internet access at a much higher speed. 4G and LTE are two common terms used
for the same technology hence the terms are used interchangeably. As this technology
supports much higher speed than the previous technologies, the customer will feel better
internet browsing experience. Now, videos can be streamed without interruption and at higher
definition.

 EVDO Service
EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized), also known as CDMA2000 1xEvDO, is a
telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals,
typically for broadband Internet access. The EV-DO feature of CDMA2000 networks provides
access to mobile devices with downlink air interface speeds of up to 2.4 Mbit/s and uplink up
to 153 kbps with Rel. 0. Similarly the downlink and uplink air interface speed in Rev A is up to
3.1 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps respectively. Nepal Telecom is implementing EVDO service with 15
BTS in Kathmandu, Banepa and Pokhara. But now the EVDO network has spread throughout
the Country.

UNIT-3
5. Doing Google Search find out a case study of a company that has implemented Supply Chain
Management System or Customer Relationship Management System. What are the benefits the
company realized?

Soln:- For the research of supply chain management, I have taken Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart is
the largest retailer operating from 15 countries and according to them, Supply Chain management
is the main source through which their organization grows and achieves this status. As Wal-Mart
developed in the 1960s to 1980s, it started extracting the advantages from better transportation
facilities and the failure of it is contenders to respond to updates in enactment, for example the
evacuation of resale value upkeep, which had averted retailers from marking down stock (Andel,
1995).
Company Supply Chain Strategy:
According to the coverage of a recent event, it was announced by the management of Wal-Mart to
their suppliers that they can audit and disclose the costs of their products, in other words Wal-Mart
invited 100,000 corporates globally to audit and evaluate their environmental and social strengths
which could lead the relevant businesses to decrease their wastage after the evaluation and
improvise their returns. The corporate critics who always keep evaluating the strategies of Wal-
Mart praised the management of Wal-Mart for this act but they knew that Wal-Mart has a wider
goal behind this plan. Wal-Mart designs to consolidate information on water usage, environmental
friendly gas discharges, strong waste grounding, and worker morals into a database imparted
worldwide, which the group stated might be utilized to shape the first file of a feature's essence
cycle sway. Other than this Wal-Mart facilitates their customers in relevance to some categories of
products that they can evaluate that information by scanning them on the PDAs and evaluate the
given content on the packaging. Promoting this plan, Wal-Mart states that "A consumer will be
able to see the cotton farm, maybe even the farmer who raised the cotton," said John Fleming, the
company's chief merchandising officer. "The consumer of the future will be able to see, whether
from the sea or the ground, where that product came from."
Company Supply Chain Effectiveness:
Wal-Mart has become the largest retailer with the most rapid expansion in their discount provision
network and all of this has happened through proceeding in reducing the surplus costs in all their
operations and inhibiting the marginal expansions. All this has resulted in to an increase in their
net income by 25% that has been now $1.6 billion and 18% market share is possessed by the
discount department of their network.
Wal-Mart has been always stronger than its competitors as it has bonded the most powerful
relation with every kind of suppliers, though their always customizing operations and giving a
spacious platform to brands to market their branding and by consolidating with the industry on
individual level. Wal-Mart also looks after the demands of their customers; this also keeps an
efficiency level in their stocks and let the suppliers know about the sales of their products on run-
time. After an overall research it could be said that, Wal-Mart is able to lead the market of retail
business by possessing some qualities or strengths as compared to others. These strengths are that,
the supply chain dept. (Barry, 2006). of Wal-Mart keeps track of the demand of each product,
tracking their movement from other stores too which defines which region requires which sort of
product in which amount, by the deployment of a very effective information system that secures all
sort of transits and transactions, not only this but also analyses the sales, trend of customers in
reference to market information and also by becoming a middle party between the distributors and
the wholesale dealers. The growth and tremendous progress of Wal-Mart can be observed from the
following growth chart.

6. Check and explain windows firewall settings in your desktop/laptop for the
protection of attacks.

Soln:- Firewalls are important because they have had a huge influence on modern security
techniques and are still widely used. They first emerged in the early days of the internet, when
networks needed new security methods that could handle increasing complexity. Most devices use
firewalls to inspect traffic and mitigate threats.
A firewall establishes a border between an external network and the network it guards. It is
inserted inline across a network connection and inspects all packets entering and leaving the
guarded network. As it inspects, it uses a set of pre-configured rules to distinguish between benign
and malicious packets.

The term 'packets' refers to pieces of data that are formatted for internet transfer. Packets contain
the data itself, as well as information about the data, such as where it came from. Firewalls can use
this packet information to determine whether a given packet abides by the rule set. If it does not,
the packet will be barred from entering the guarded network. As a packet travels through the
network, it is reformatted several times to tell the protocol where to send it. Different types of
firewalls exist to read packets at different network levels.

7. Check, study and explain ‘BitLocker Drive Encryption’ provided by windows.

BitLocker is a security feature added in Windows Vista that protects a computer's file system.
BitLocker encrypts disk drivers and their contents. When encrypted, others cannot see your files
even if the computer had been stolen or the hard disk was taken. BitLocker also works on
removable storage drives. In order to access an encrypted drive, users must authenticate/login to
access the data.
In addition to a login/password, a PIN or startup key can be used to prevent unauthorized access to
the data on the drive; on either type of drive (fixed or removable), users can login to BitLocker-
protected data by using a password or smart card.

The aim of BitLocker is to protect computers and drives against data breaches and intrusions. The
main benefits are:

 It encrypts your entire drive, providing a high-level of security using the TPM module.
 You can set up BitLocker to automatically save keys to Active Directory
 There are no additional licensing costs, as a native Windows function
 Negligible impact on read performance, and no impact on write performance
 Easy set-up

UNIT-5
8. List out different kinds of payment cards being used in the Nepalese market. Explain:
kinds of facilities available with the cards……

List of different kinds of payment cards being used in the Nepalese market:
I. Debit cards
II. Credit cards
III. Foreign cards
IV. Prepaid cards
V. Electronic cards

1. Debit cards: If you have a savings bank account, the bank is likely to issue a debit card that is
directly linked to your savings account. Debit cards generally will have a credit network associated
with them like VISA or Mastercard. Having these credit networks printed on cards means that
there is the acceptability of debit cards as a form of payment in many countries, places. However,
using a debit card will not help build our credit score. Besides, you can also withdraw money from
ATM using your debit card.
2. Credit card: You can purchase goods and services at PoS terminals/e-commerce through credit
cards. These cards can help you build a good credit score if the bills are paid on time. You may use
these cards domestically and internationally (provided they are enabled for such use). While credit
cards can also be used to withdraw cash from an ATM, you must not do so because you are usually
charged a fee upfront based on the amount you withdraw. You can also transfer money to bank
accounts, debit cards, other credit cards and prepaid cards within India, subject to agreed limits and
conditions.

3. Prepaid card: The norm of prepaid cards depends on the issuer of such cards. Prepaid cards can
be open or semi-closed and can be used to withdraw cash from an ATM, purchase goods and
services at PoS terminals/e-commerce. You can also make domestic funds transfers, subject to
prescribed limits and conditions. While banks issue open system prepaid cards, semi-closed system
prepaid cards can be issued by the bank and non-bank entities.

4. Electronic cards: These cards can be considered debit cards issued in specific overdraft
accounts like personal loans without any specific end-use limitations. Banks have been allowed to
provide electronic cards to people having overdraft accounts to enable domestic digital
transactions. The norm of prepaid cards depends on the issuer of such cards. Prepaid cards can be
open or semi-closed and can be used to withdraw cash from an ATM, purchase goods and services
at POS terminals/e-commerce.
9. Research: “Emerging trends in online payment system in Nepal”.

Digital banking is a very recent phenomenon in Nepal. The era of modern banking in Nepal started
with Nabil Bank introducing credit cards in the early 1990s. Himalayan Bank introduced ATM and
Nepali credit card for the domestic market in 1995. In 2002, Kumari Bank introduced E-Banking
(Internet Banking) service for the first time in Nepal. Likewise, in 2004, Laxmi Bank introduced
SMS Banking (Mobile Banking) service for the first time in the country. In the early stage, digital
banking services were mainly used to check account statements only. Customers were not much
aware regarding the purposes of digital banking and how to use it. It took a long time for digital
banking technology to be adopted widely.

Digital Payment is definitely growing in popularity and is becoming a trend these days. The reason
is simple – convenience. In the era when businesses are shifting online, why not transactions!
Looking at the current scenario, it seems like digital payment platforms will take a notable uptake
after the lockdown. Both service providers and customers will consider adopting cashless
transaction methods. I don’t think that the market is currently overcrowded. If we focus on a
cashless economy, we haven’t yet explored its possibilities in many sectors. So far, the PSPs and
PSOs in existence are focusing more on the retail industry and maybe there’s noticeable
overlapping in this area. However, we still have entire, segregated, and untouched industries that
still need a lot of work in the field of digitization.

For now, the regulators need to drive their attention in preventing the overlap on the same set of
infrastructure and market. There are factors like interoperability and shared infrastructures that
could help prevent overcrowding. But, there’s no immediate need to point out the existence of
different digital payment platforms in the market. The main reason why people have purses or
wallets on them is to carry cash and cards. In a rather digital world, smartphones are likely to
replace them all. One’s identity to bank account information, everything will shift to an e-wallet.

A 100% cashless economy is still a far-fetched idea due to reasons like security and the digital
divide. But, it is not impossible if enough work is put into building the infrastructure and raising
awareness.
