Part 2: The Past in Time Clauses

Before we move to explain the past in tme tme clauses, let us look at the hapitual past with
used to and would:

• I used to have long hair (but now I have short hair).
• He used to smoke (but now he doesn't smoke).
• She didn't use to like chocolate, but she does now.
• I used to ride a bike to school every day.
• My grandfather used to do exercises every day before work.
• I used to drink green tea.

We can use “would” to talk about a habit or repeated acton in the past:
• When I was a student, we would ofen go to the park afer school on Thursday.
• When I was litle, I would play with dolls all day.
However, we don't use “would “ to talk about states in the past:
• I would have long hair.
• I would live in Scotland.

Before she called the post ofce, the package arrived.
