What Do You Think?

Answer the following questions substantively.

1. What local practices (religious, cultural, political) you think are deterrent to effective financial
management among Filipino families? What alternative ways Filipinos should adopt in order to
replace/avoid these practices that lead to financial mismanagement?

2. In order to help the poor but deserving students get a college degree, the government is granting
Tertiary Education Subsidy amounting 20K per semester to students. If you were one of the grantees of
this government aid, how would you spend the money? Illustrate your answer using a pie chart and a
short description of the chart.

3. What tips and techniques would you give to parents in developing among their children effective
financial management?

4. What are the common financial challenges and issues among students? What pieces of advice would
you share with your students about (a) budgeting, (b) saving, (c) spending, (d) borrowing?

5. Teacher Ryan, a newly hired public school teacher, was overwhelmed when he received his first
salary. Since he was not used to having a monthly income, he did not know exactly what to do with his
money. If you were Teacher Ryan, how will you spend your one-month salary? Using a template
available online, create a budget plan that is suited to your needs and lifestyle.
