Careers in Focus gives you the chance to talk to graduates who are now industry leaders, with lecturers on hand to give advice on courses and enrolment. The sessions are a unique opportunity to learn from people who made the most of their time at Sydney Institute. What it takes to be a chef, caterer, events manager, hotel manager, restaurateur, waiter.

Travel and Tourism Building

What it takes to be a travel agent, tour wholesaler, tour guide. What it takes to be builder, carpenter, plumber, rigger, painter & decorator, tiler, signwriter. Thursday, 8 September 12.00 - 1.30pm

Electrical Trades

What it takes to be an electrician, electrical engineer, electronics technician, refrigeration technician, instrumentation technician. Tuesday, 13 September 12.00 - 1.30pm

Hair and Beauty

What it takes to be a hairdresser, aromatic massage specialist, beautician, make-up artist. Wednesday, 14 September 12.00 - 1.30pm

Automotive

What it takes to be a mechanic, panel beater, spraypainter, airbrusher, auto air-conditioning servicer, steering and suspension specialist. 6.00 - 7.30pm

Languages

What it takes to be a TESOL teacher, translator of other languages. Preparation for IELTS and PEAT. Tuesday, 11 October 12.00 - 1.30pm

Business & Marketing

What it takes to be a business manager, HR manager, marketing or public relations manager, advertising copywriter, product and sales manager, small business owner. 6.00 - 7.30pm

Accounting

What it takes to be accountant, finance broker, financial adviser, currency dealer, bookkeeper. Wednesday, 12 October 6.00 - 7.30pm

Design

What it takes to be a graphic designer, interior designer, event designer, web designer, animator, jeweller, desktop publisher, multi-media developer, product designer. Thursday, 13 October 6.00 - 7.30pm

Information Technology and Digital Media

What it takes to be a network administrator, systems/software engineer, programmer, database specialist, sound/recording engineer, radio presenter/ producer, screenwriter. Tuesday, 18 October 12.00 - 1.30pm

Childrens Services

What it takes to be a child care manager, crche attendant, nanny, out of school hours assistant. 6.00 - 7.30pm

Community Services & Nursing

What it takes to be a community support worker, counsellor, social worker, enrolled nurse, aged care worker, hospital orderly. Wednesday, 19 October 12.00 - 1.30pm

Sport & Recreation

What it takes to be a personal trainer, fitness instructor, outdoor adventure leader, remedial/sports massage therapist, sports marketing manager. 6.00 - 7.30pm

Laboratory Science

What it takes to be a laboratory technician, medical laboratory/pathology officer, food inspector.
