INTRODUCTION

The Case study will throw light on two different Scenarios. Firstly, there is a company that deals in Plastic
Products by extracting oils from Plants and Animals. Secondly, there is a Chain of Six BBQ resturants.
Depending upon the running of both the syndicate, we will make a judgement that whether
management of these organizations will work Horizontally or Vertically. However, in each of the cases
we will discuss about how business decisions will be made and who reports to whom, what would be the
kind of roles that would be fulfilled, total sum of employees we will hire and moreover, how will they
work together, the way they will share their information and their location. In regards to above
deliverables we will illustrate further that which Scenario would be easier to implement in reality and
which is most likely to be preferred.

Scenario #1: Plastic Manufacturing Firm

In this case study, we will figure out some of the key points of plastic manufacturing. Firstly, if we go 10
decades back, the plastic which was produced was not decomposable due to which it resulted in fatal
pollution problems. But nowadays, companies make products that are totally originated from natural
resources and are not harmful to the environment. For example, plastics which are made by natural
plant and animal oil, prove to be a virtue for next generations. The firm is new and would probably be
set where there is least amount of population resides. In my opinion, places like countryside, forest areas
in woods would be ideal for manufacturers to set themselves. Now the firm is new to the market and has
to gain its name and reputation among people and the product introduced is new so the company must
work horizontally. The reason behind this would be the flat structure of the organization. This means
that there will be fewer managers and that rank-and-file employees will have more authority. Employees
will feel empowered as a result of this system, as they will be able to make important decisions without
requiring approval from a manager. Employees in a horizontal organization are motivated and driven by
company goals, rather than having to satisfy a manager, which can improve efficiency and morale. Once
the company profits touch the sky and they gain the beliefs of the customers the firm will start working
vertically in a strictly organized manner.

My role in the firm would be of a Leader and though the company is product driven so I will choose a
Team-Based Organizational System. In this System, Employees are grouped into Skills-Based teams to
work on specific tasks while all working toward a shared objective under a Team-Based organizational
structure. This is frequently a flexible structure that allows staff to shift from team to team when tasks
are completed. The focus of this structure is on problem-solving and staff collaboration and improving

product performance in the market by establishing the product value. The corporation will be divided
into four departments to distribute the workload. Each team will be in charge of its own tasks. There
would be four teams respective to their departments (Research Team, Production Team, Marketing &
Advertising Team, and finance Team). The Research team will look at the many sources from which
plastics can be made, as well as which sources are readily available in the area or market. The team will
be made up of a Research Manager and two people who will handle the product research. A production
Manager, a Process Supervisor, 3 workers who will work on the production line, and two packers will
round up the production crew. One Manager, one Supervisor, and 3 team members will build up the
marketing team and also perform advertising duties. A Head Accountant, 2 Cashiers, and 2 members for
purchasing extra resources such as Crude oil, natural gas, coal , salt etc. will make up the Finance team.
All four team managers will report to the firm's owner, and there will be a total of 20 employees. Every
weekend, the company will meet with the owner to discuss the progress.

The company will have a minimal number of workers because it is just getting started in the market and
needs to save money on HR expenditures while also allowing the core of the company to focus on what
it does best by lowering costs through outsourcing.

Scenario #2: Chain of BBQ Restaurant

The food industry has long been thriving. Restaurants, cafeterias, and fast food establishments must
advertise their delicacies in the most appealing manner possible. Food selection is as sensitive as
restaurant location. There are so many well known restaurant chains that we all are familiar of such as
Wendy’s, The Cheesecake Factory, McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC etc. These resturants attract lots of
customers and totally depend upon different variety of food cuisines ordered by customers. A company
has a chain of 6 BBQ resturants. As the food chain businesses are growing with a shooting speed, it
would not take much of the time to settle and easily could make up its place in the market. So it should
rather start working Vertically. In a vertical organization, the business has a pyramidal top-down
structure, with a CEO, president or owner at the top, a middle section of managers and supervisors,
and a bottom section of regular employees. As a business owner, you would make all the major
decisions about marketing, sales, and customer service standards, then communicate those decisions
to your middle management. These managers would then be responsible for telling your employees
the work processes that will achieve desired goals. The word “vertical” refers to the fact that the
organization works from the top to the bottom, and that employees are not required or expected to
contribute to the choices that you make regarding how the company operates. So each restaurant will
have two teams i.e Team 1 & Team 2. Both the teams will have the equal numbers of employees and
their jobs will be divided as per their duties. The main goal of setting up more employees into team is,

firstly it will enhance their interest in job and they will not get bored and enjoy their job also If the
owners have the support of their teams working behind them, they are more likely to see their teams
functioning and are more willing to take calculated risks that lead to innovation. So each of the team
will have 1 Manager, 2 Chefs for preparing food , 2 people for research in market, advertising tasks and
noting down customer reviews, 1 Cashier at the Front Desk, 3 Waiters to serve the food and 2 Cleaners
who would take care of hygiene and washing dishes. The Managers of all the Teams of all restaurant
chain will directly report to the owner about the detailed information of the whole week. This will
include targets achieved by the teams, Customers Feedback, experimenting new cuisines as per the
VOC ( Voice of Customer). Each branch will have a total of 22 memebers summing up the two teams in
each branch. So overall in total there will be 132 memebers.

I strongly opine that Scenario#2 was more suitable for me because it looks more realistic to apply. So it
is all about public demand and presenting before them what they actually asked for and this eventually
makes them happy and this is what exactly going on in majority of the food businesses. This is the reason
that tends to grow the food industries in a much faster pace. Setting up a food court is not a task which is
very hard to implement, infact, it does not require lots of space to set up a business and if it is
somewhere where there is hardly a competetor, the resturant or food chain will flourish in no time.
Overall it depends upon the Voice of Customer.

If I had to choose from one of the scenario, I would choose scenario 2 (Chain Of BBQ Resturant) because
it is something which has a low investment and higher output. Apart from other businesses which
require time management and take more years to establish, food chain business are much easier to
implement and It will make my view of understanding customer demands more clear and precise. It also
depends upon the field of interest of an individual I like to communicate with different types of people
so that I can get a variety of what is going on in the trend.
