STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF SPECIMEN

Urine Specimen storage

 Store all specimens as negative for a minimum of five days. Must be kept in refrigerator.
 Retain all specimen reported as positive, in the freezer, and must be sent to a
confirmatory laboratory.
 Retain all specimen adulterated, substituted or invalid result for a minimum of 15 days
upon receipt of the result
 A specimen may be retained for a minimum of 1 year upon request. If no such request is
received, a specimen may be discarded.
 Retained specimen must be kept in a secured location appropriately, to ensure its
availability for a necessary retesting during an administrative or judicial proceeding.

Disposal of Specimen

- For negative specimen, urine must be disposed 5 days after collection. This must be logged
to the Urine Storage and Disposal logbook. Urine specimen must be disposed to the urinal.
- For specimen adulterated, substituted or invalid result, dispose urine 15 days upon receipt of
the result. The ASC must logged data into the logbook. Dispose urine in the urinal.
